that is one of the advantages that comedy has over other forms of communication i find

it can slip things past our defences that otherwise we wouldn't let in

(similar to say how since you lack trust with Jordan Peterson, that interferes you from experiencing any Facts he actually says.)
Psychoanalyze yourself, please. You are not entitled to psychoanalyze me.

I don’t listen to advice from people I don’t trust. Wow. Crazy.

When I listen to Jordan Peterson, I listen very carefully to what he says and how he says it. He is very good at using plastic words and making inappropriate leaps from facts to assumptions. One of the gifts from educational foundations was learning how language works and analyzing complex writing to see what is really being said.

I remember this complex written english analysis class where we would deconstruct an entire sentence according to some arcane categorization system to see how each word works and together...that was the most challenging course of my adult life lol

and i remember listening to the first Orange Pimple and Hillary debate on the radio and I found I could pay more attention to what was being said without the distraction of spectacle and feelings...it was a fascinating experience...i was on the phone with a good friend who was watching the whole thing...we had a good time...

and jimkenny12, you once mentioned you were on the spectrum? do you find that helps you with the kind of analysis you mention above?

Dystopian nightmare. It’s unfortunate the future only seems as bright as some of the darkest ideas from fiction. Those sci-fi people had crappy imaginations, as it turns out. And we went along with it. Pretty primitive, actually - but with bells and whistles. We spent the last several thousands of years learning how to die easier, with fashionable custom coloured devices? Right…way to go team humanity! /s

Are they reusable? Next thing you know - they’ll be used for housing instead of tents. /s Better ideas aren’t being allowed to go ahead at a faster pace. Those things are sinister looking to me. I hope, at least, they don’t end up crowding the landfills.

We at my employer are using tech to help a lot of people live longer and enjoy that life more. So I would be very careful about placing that kind of judgement on the tech sector. It provides tools and how we use them is what determines how they affect our lives.

It might apply to a certain segment of the tech sector, for sure (hi, social media darlings), but there's some real potential in other segments to improve all lives if we just use their products the right way.

I have no moral qualms about being in IT and using products from the likes of MS because I have seen first hand what we accomplish with those tools.

My daughter's partner/boyfriend is a biotech engineer working in robotics. Tech is making a huge difference in people's lives from medical tech to mobility devices. People who used to be stuck at home because of mobility issues are now driving their electric vehicles to stores, coffee shops, and other places.

The tech billionaires are the ones who seem self centered and indifferent to the wellness of others.

AGreed, though some are more egregious than others. Zuckerberg, for instance, comes across this way in his business relations (and I boycott Meta because of it) but does put a lot of money into children's health in the US, though that may be the influence of his wife, who is a pediatrician.

Agree of course, but unfortunately as you say, social media tends to influence thinking and has become overly powerful using influence and controversy while "banking" on the hits to. It's about finding the flavour of the day to make money using influence without needing credentials.

But social media is only just barely "tech", IMHO. It is really an application of technology rather than a technology itself. Realistically speaking, forums are a kind of social media, just older and more limited in what they do vs. something like FB. The underlying tech is actually not that different, just a database driven web site/service. Social media is just more complicated in its design and therefore in its programming.

To me, tech also includes servers, software, infrastructure that then supports applications like social media and you can't really blame that infrastructure for the excesses of those applications. The same infrastructure also supports critical medical applications, payroll systems, and so on. So if you're targeting social media, say "social media" because "tech" is not synonymous with "social media" or "insane billionaires".

I suppose, if you feel anything created by someone discounts responsibility?

I used to totally agree with that, but there are people using social media for good, who aren’t concerned about mainstream credentials, they are flying in the face of them. Sometimes that’s good and necessary. Sometimes “credentials” means “obedience to stagnant and unhelpful norms”. So, naturally people will try to change that. Social media is the new TV - except it’s potentially better because of the interactive factor. TV is passive so people received a lot of information they couldn’t respond to and were expected to accept - and even absorbed what we didn’t accept. There were plenty of TV charlatans too, hucksters, false advertisers, propagandists…

Floating cellibrats ... doomed for sanctification ... thus about the san guest as sangria sinks ... into a closed system!
