Ya'd sorta think that a clinical psychologist would a) take seriously the depressing interaction of benzos and alcohol, and b) know how to taper off a drug.

He's not a medical doctor...and even doctors need their own different doctors...but the narrative that he has to be a tough guy about it, and downplaying that his addiction is in anyway psychological (a sign of weakness in his world) is problematic to destigmatizing addiction (which can happen to anybody!). So is pumping up Russia's austerity driven, cold turkey, "take it like a man" narrative.

Everybody has an addiction ... some it is institutionalization ... like the Rosenhan Experiment!
