Rest In Peace: tomorrow,tomorrow
The first Sunday that is Advent 1, is Dec.3.

Is Advent a time of year that you observe in any way. ?

Does your church observe with hangings, banners, Advent wreath and lighting of candles?

Do you sing Advent hymns or Christmas hymns?

Do you have a pink candle on the third Sunday and blue or purple in the other
with white Christ candle in middle?

Do people who visit your church know what all the symbols mean? Does it matter
if they do or not?

Do you have other special services or studies?

Do you have a Blue Christmas Service?

Add any other questions or comments.

I appreciate @Seeler 's posts for getting me into recognizing advent. It started as just something enjoyable and relaxing in that busy time leading up to Christmas. Then I had some years when it was more of what I needed. Last year I really had considered going to a Blue Christmas service, but I just wasn't up to getting out, had I known of an online one I probably would have watched.

Hopefully this year it will be less needed, but I do plan to do something to recognize Advent beyond my chocolate calendar (haha I don't think I ever missed a year for having one of those).

I only observe it in the ways that my church does.
- Hope, Peace, Joy, Love banners that hang
- a wreath with five candles (three pink, one purple - Joy, and one white)
- we always sing "Hope is a Star" adding a verse each week through Advent
- we have a Blue Christmas-type service on December 21 which we call The Longest Night
- this is our minister's third Advent season with us and he has lead a book study each year which meets after the Sunday service over lunch for four weeks leading up to Christmas

I like to have my (live) Christmas tree up at home and my Christmas cards mailed out before Advent begins. It gets me in the spirit sooner and helps the Christmasy feelings live longer for us.
