A place to record answered prayers.

I'll start. I was in my school's bookstore today, needing to buy a book that's very popular here. We're currently at the end of term, so the bookstore was changing its stock over for the next one. I asked the bookstore manager if she had the text, and she went away to look for it.

While she was gone, I said a little prayer that there would be a copy available for me to buy. Well, the bookstore manager came back and told me that she had found one - but the cover was slightly bent. However, because of that reason, I could buy it for 20% off!

God is so good. He's so good to me.

And with a warped cover ... exposing some word in the tome ... as it won't close adequately for those preferring rigid states ...

Tonight I'm praying for my daughter's best friends mother. She is dying from flesh eating disease and doctors will attempt more surgery tomorrow....it doesn't look good. I'm praying for my daughter and her friend too. It's very sad......sometimes God's way, is to take us out of our suffering bodies when it's time. May God's peace come upon her....
Her daughter is praying that she will survive this....
The mother doesn't really want more surgery, but she will do it for her daughter.
We don't know yet how God will answer.

Interesting, I would never ask for a prayer of intervention for something like a book, well, not seriously.
I also dont' ask for prayers of intervention...though I have been prayed for.
Personally, it feels hypocritical to me though I am good with others praying and respect their right to believe in a God that gives a hoot about a book being there. I have been in dialogues with others, such as @revjohn and @DaisyJane about prayers . I do not profess to understand there or other's understanding of prayer. I know that I am challenged by a theory of a God with a magic wand saying "yup, your prayer is answered and this child will live" and "nope, yours won't"

I don't think I ever pray to a god for intervention, because that would, as per Pinga's post above, outrage my inherent moral sense. However, I do recognize that in moments of panic, I pray for help (I absolutely get Anne Lamott's reduction of all prayer to "Please", "Thanks" and "Wow", and when I pray for someone who is ill, it's for courage, acceptance, peace - not some kind of unscientific miracle.

I always feel guilty for prayers for myself because if God answers prayers

,there are many worse off than I. I seldom offer prayers on WC.

But, crazyheart, you are just as entitled to god's universal grace as your brother, tree. Got someone real upset with that statement today...

Jesus said, "If ye ask any thing in my name, I shall do it." - John 14:14 (WYC).

In my thinking, "any thing" means any thing. :D

Very long story of events in short.

Praying for my wife's life

My wife, back in July of 2006, on life support, the doctors wanted me to give them permission to take her off of it, not one Dr , not 2 Dr's but 3. All 3 Dr's took me into a room trying to convince me to take her off of support that even if she survived, she was brain dead and would be a vegetable. As they spoke to me , I could hear another voice, clear as day , and this voice kept saying 'Waite on the Lord', Waite on the Lord”. So I listened to that voice that I pray too, and told the doctors no , well they were upset at me, so I stood up in the hospital room before them , I told them , shes my wife and Its my decision and my answer is No, and I walked out.

That was a Monday evening, I kept praying , she woke up Wednesday morning with only a broken front tooth, where they had to push there way in forcefully to get the life support tube in her.

God is real, Jesus is real , Holy Spirit is real

As you might have guessed, my bowling aaverage has dropped in recent years. One day I was having a particularly bad day when suddenly I threw a perfecct strike. As my team mates were high-fiving me, a particularly pious woman told me 'I was praying that you would get a strike.' Wow, did thaat ever take the wind out of my sails. I didn't get a strikee. Apparently between this woman and God my ball was guided down the lane and right into the pocket. I could have had my eyes shut and used my non-ddominant hand - they would see that I got a strike. Somehow I don't believe that God interfers with minute aspects of our lives.

I do believe in a personal relationship with God. Perhaps the very aact of praying does something for us - even if it is simply calming us and helping us to apply our own resources. I know that when I was a student, I would pray before exams; then someetimes while writing I would remember something that I didn't even know that I knew - some little fact that we may have covered months ago that I could work into my answer to a question and just push it over the edge and get me a B rather than a C.

Somehow I imagine God as something like a parent watching a child (me) at a game - not interfering but crossing fingers and hoping for my success. That I will remember the answer, or thaat I will throw a strike; rejoicing when I do well, groaning when I fail; loving me either time.

I engage in intercessory prayer quite often. I rarely pray for my own needs.

There is one rare occasion which I will never forget. Kimberly and I were in South Sauble where I was functioning as the student supply minister. Robert was just about six months old and finances were extremely tight.

What we really needed that month was $50 so that we wouldn't bounce cheques.

I have to say that it felt petty and a tad shalliw going to God with such a selfish request. I probably never would have had it not been for Kimberly's distress.

So we huddled. I offered an apologetic prayer for said financial short-fall. I said Amen with a bit of a shoulder shrug. As soon as I had there was a knock at the door and one of the couples I had been ministering to all summer pressed an envelope into my hands.

They had been praying moments earlier and had come to the conclusion that God was asking them to give me something. They left quickly before I could open the envelope.

Kimberly and I stared at the envelope for a few minutes before we opened it. Inside was a $50.

The second was the key story I have shared before.

A member of my youth group lost her car keys and others decided we should make a prayer circle about it.

I thought looking for them would be the most useful action. Still, taking time to pray was going to cost us only a few minutes of time. I listened but did not participate.

At the end if the prayer with head still bowed I opened my eyes and saw the missing keys right between my feet.

Lesson learned.

Great accounts John, thank you for sharing them.

Speaking of money, there was once back when I was a single guy that I had almost no food in the house, was hungry, and had no money to buy more food.

After praying about this situation in the upstairs of my mom's house, I went down to the basement. There on my bed was a $20 bill that had not been there previously. It was just enough for me to buy a few grocery items, which carried me over to the next day when I could get to my bank.

Trump believes he is entitled to that too ... why dark powers censure powers of we people ... so the oligarchs can frolic on the heads on others ...

There is no "too" Luce. It is not about entitlement to me. It is about grace.

Metaphorically you don't grasp Tues/2/too? Tis Trinitarian maybe Moor ... has ups and downs ...

And again in the statement there is nothing "too" Luce ... I'm only part of your abstract Jae ... ignore it ... thus nothing will go way! Departure of place to put gathered thoughts ... thus High Flight!

That is a false allegation Luce. I have not been high in decades.

Course, one thing that does make me elated is sweet communion with God. I spend a time in prayer each day. I go by the PTCS paradigm.

Connections with ethers ... a passionate loss? Something was vacuumed out ... potentially God's mother cleaning house? That's gamma ...
