Jacket for older girl got "more unicorns" embroidered onto it. (and flowers from the wreath on the front, as well)

Also, both used "metallic" thread, as it sparkles and the 4 yr old liked the sparkly thread.

I finished this sweater for hubby. I bought the yarn and the magazine that has the pattern in 1999 or 2000. It was in a bag in a closet for years. I knit it as part of my destash mission. Does anyone have tips for sewing in a zipper. The yarn is bulky weight. I suspect I'll have to hand sew it in.

Interesting pattern. It looks like it will make for a cosy sweater. Can't offer advice about the zipper I'm sorry to say. Maybe Youtube can help.

That will be part of my research. I'm also going to a knitting group tonight. I'm sure a wise woman there will have ideas too.

How did today go for you?

So I've done some thinking and consulting. I was on the right track. I'll put the zipper in this morning.

Hi folks

Any ideas for simple sewing gifts for adults: think stocking stuffer or host gifts

Thinking of ways to use up cache, but also have fun.

I may make the kids an easy beach bag and make a simple fleece nightie or lounge pants

Maybe something that would go with some canning. Hmm, I could make microwave holders for bowls.

Should clarify the kids are the great nieces and nephews: an easy beach bag and make a simple fleece nightie or lounge pants to go into it. We used to spend $50 to $75 each before I started making gifts. Material isn't cheap but I try to pick up through the year

The bowl holders are great. They're easy to make too. Make sure you use all cotton so it can be microwaved.

A zippered pouch might be nice too. I make some that look like half square triangles. They're handy for extra chargers or such.

My sister makes gorgeous project bags, with a few pockets for pattern, needles, etc., and a snapped loop coming out of the bulk of the bag to feed yarn through.

And oh yes, @Northwind, stuff to help you find stuff in your purse. Little pouches to organize a biggish purse with a lot of different categories...

A very talented fibre artist of all sorts, is that sister. My latest socks from her are her skew sock pattern (so distinct left and right foot, and sized exactly to my feet) in a merino angora blend, in shades of lavender...

I find it fascinating when I hear comments about nightwear for kids' gifts. Most people, including kids seem to just say a polite thankyou. I have a pair of grandsons who always got new pj pants from their other grandmother at Christmas. They could hardly wait to put them on, even as teenagers! That grandmother is dead now but the boys still talk about the traditional gifts.
