It’s been a while. We’re now in our 15th year—hard to believe! There have been a few bumps along the way, and let’s be honest, it’s not always fun being on the cutting edge.
I just wanted to bring everyone up to date. This year has been our hardest yet. We were unable to run camp last year because we couldn’t find a Camp Director. This year, we’re in a better place—most of our staff are confirmed, and camper registrations are slowly coming in. But what we’re really struggling with is donations.
Back in 2020, my husband and I were honoured to receive the Governor General of Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal for co-founding Rainbow Camp. We’ve come a long way since then, and our social media reach is much stronger now. Still, a lot has changed within the 2SLGBTQ+ community. COVID certainly didn’t help, and now, with the rising wave of hate—even outside of Canada—it’s even harder for our youth to feel safe and supported.
If anyone on Wondercafe2 can help spread the word about Rainbow Camp this year, it would mean the world to us.
