I receive email items from Sensible Medicine that focus on improving the practice of medicine at all levels, especially journals, medical organizations, and government agencies. Today's article was about journals focusing on medicine and not political issues like nuclear war and climate change. He cited the frequent failure of journals to hold the authors of articles to a high standard of scientific rigor in terms of the reliability of their submissions.

Churches are in decline for a combination of reasons. I wonder if part of the reason is shifting the centrality of our focus from developing and living out our faith to particular social issues.

Following Jesus, serving his mission, calls us to work to reduce the threat of nuclear war because we are called to offer healing and knowing others are working for this provides hope for children and others and eases their anxiety.

Following Jesus calls us to love God. One way to love God is to care for creation. Let love of God be our driver for acting in response to climate change even though there are many other good reasons to act.

I think there's some truth in this. In a church, IMHO, the faith comes first and then informs the action. There may, of course, be influence back as the action brings one into contact with issues or segments of society that open your eyes. But to my eyes, church is about faith and spiritual matters which then inform our values and the actions we take. Starting with the values and actions is putting the cart before the horse. I don't go to church to hear about homelessness or war, I go to explore the spiritual dimension of life which can then inform my attitude and approach to those issues. When it does deal with specific social issues, a church needs to be casting them in the light of that church's faith.

Perhaps because of the institution of the god of emotion over the essence of the god of wisdom and knowledge ... all this in absence in of balanced care (being previously recalled elsewhere)!

It is a sad song and some relate them to dirges! That is where it all falls flat ... an Ode sayen/sane! Ci? Its all in the word ... needing guttural stops ... grooves?
