Non alcoholic beer

For health reasons, Mr Paradox and I are experimenting with non alcoholic beer.
There is quite a variety of it on the market and some of it is surprisingly good.

But here's the thing.

If you buy it at the Beer Store, you pay a deposit on the cans or bottles. Thus you can return the containers (for the product the Beer Store sells) & get your money back

However. The same brands are also sold in grocery stores and at the LCBO. No deposit on the containers. Isn't this a strange situation?

If I have this right, it's all on the honour system. If we buy our non-alcoholic beer elsewhere, we are trusted to toss the cans & bottles into the recycling bin. Not show up with them at TBS to get 10 or 15¢ back.

This is not a health and aging question obviously. But I decided to post it here. Maybe someone would like to comment on non-alcoholic beer or wine?

My little city has its own craft brewery, Flying Monkeys. Their beer names (Juicy Ass is my fav - beer and name) and can designs are funny, colourful.

Not sure how widely this brand is distributed but we see it around here.

There are several craft breweries out here. It may be dying out a bit - heard of one closing down - but it has been a big trend for awhile. I’ve never seen non alcoholic craft beer by them, but one of the well established craft breweries based in Victoria, Phillips, also has a line of sodas: rootbeer, cream soda, cola, etc. that’s sold in grocery stores. I’ve tried a couple of those. They taste good. Natural ingredients (still full of sugar). I’d forgotten they were from the same parent company but they’ve got Phillip’s Brewing, and Phillip’s Soda. The packaging and graphic art is the same style. Intergalactic Rootbeer is one of them.

I just looked it up and Phillips has 4 de-alcoholized beers. Their iOTA line. Not 1 iota but 0.5% of an iota. Cute. (Regular beer is 4-7%) They do have a catchy marketing strategy.

On a related note, our premier Mr Doug Ford has dumped out a partially empty bottle of Crown Royale onto the ground. He was protesting the closure of the company's bottling facility in Amherstburg, Ontario.

He found the bottle in his house, he said. (He always claims to be a non-drinker.) What a guy! And what a waste of some good rye!

Ryne humus ... may relate to hubris in some essence of virtue ... like bears in the 100 acre woods ... running how?

Knocking a mess of brush all aryne (aliened in modern expression) ... it is basically a catalyst in chemistry a human like reaction of flammable matter .. sometimes toxic sometimes a potion ... the l<-> r being reversable ... as Annabel following the ringer ... there's a hidden obscure story there if you read enough ... somewhat toxic?

Given his late brother's reputation, I could understand him being dry. That would put me off booze, too. But if he is, where did that whiskey come from?

Does Crown Royal still have the little bags? Or did they go away with the passing of Seagrams and the brand moving into other hands? My buddies and I used to use those for carrying our dice for D&D and related games.

I like whiskey but rarely partake and lean more to single malt Scotches than ryes.

Some believe that Trump will reawaken some mysterious activity in the American core (heartland)!

The psyche of the matter remains out there and no way of joining and gathering as the great carpenter healer would do ...

Oo, another good use for them. My late uncle was an accountant with Seagrams in Waterloo and lived with us until he got married. His "Christmas bonus" usually involved bottles of their product so we sometimes had them around the house. So weird to drive by there now. I think Google has a data center in that building. Though I suppose Google being in a distillery might explain some of the search results I get.

I didn't know Crown Royal had passed to another manufacturer. But I was aware the taste of it became less appealing a few years ago. Not sure exactly when.

There was also a variation you could get that had maple syrup in it. Bleah! (As Snoopy would say.)

I forget all the details now, but Seagrams as a corporation is basically history. Basically, Edgar Bronfman, Jr. got stars in his eyes and made a big play to get into the entertainment business, which ultimately fell apart leading to the various divisions being sold off (and in some cases resold by the buyers). So a company called Diageo owns Crown Royal. All per Wiki. And apparently the bags still exist.

Actually had a conversation about the changed taste with an LCBO employee in Coldwater. This was a few summers ago.

Whisky to me is only single malt. Crown Royal tasted rather awful to me before they changed the taste, so worse sounds really awful.

But yes, Dad used to get it as a gift and feed it to company at Christmas, and the bag was for Scrabble tiles.

I have drunk rye or other whiskies on occasion but, yeah, very much prefer a good single malt. It's been a while, though, since my alcohol consumption is so minimal anymore.

He looked like a Prohibition-era FBI agent as he (tried) to empty that bottle.

He berated the distillery for moving jobs to the US from his province.

Ford didn't seem to know that Crown Royal is HQ'd in Gimli, MB & those jobs aren’t going anywhere.

Does criticism make obvious some information both good and bad ... ugly and beautiful as eliminated mine(d) ... buried restricted item of appreciation? Pit eh ... Kubler Ross, or Dante? Whatever, despised Douay to those of high hope ...

Then a portion will not even communicate ... thus the take down! Learning is a hard continuum for a collected soul (odd concept from the autonomous perspective)

If these are greater emotions is there a greater intelligence beyond our presence ... wandering abstract, flickering shadows ...
