I was thinking about this guy before you put this up the other day - when thinking about a conversation I'd like to have with a couple of family members and acquaintances; about ableism and inspiration porn. I didn't watch the video. I've seen him before. Yes, he is unique and can do a lot, and that's impressive. No, I don't like disabled people being used this way. He's a regular person, also - if he knew no other way then that's the body he grew into and it was normal for him, and his mind is intelligent enough, and he had support, and he adapted. That's all.

People with disabilities can do lots of things besides go on tour as a spectacle. Maybe God could use this man's good brain to work on prison reform behind the scenes if he wanted to help them in practical terms. Why is it necessary to be in the spotlight showcasing his disability?

If he helps some of those men feel better, who am I to say? I would just like to see more disabled people accepted as normal human beings - neither pitied, nor inspirational, just because they're disabled.
