I am against compulsory military service that requires overseas service or for offensive operations. However, mandatory training and mobilization for home defence, I am prepared to live with. An enemy is going to think twice about invading a country where the entire adult population can be mobilized, as in the case of Switzerland. I just don't agree with Russia, the US, Israel, and other countries who use conscripted troops in offensive operations.

As have I. Great trip. I am fond of mountains. Well, and I have a Swiss uncle (married to my Dad's sister) so that's always made it a country of interest.

Do you remember where you went?
I was staying in a little stone village among the rocks and raging mountain river where people surfed off of an ancient stone bridge and where to go to the next habitation one walked along forest paths...i forget where the cobble roads went...

Umm, I also remember a quite large but very shallow lake that my mom and her friend swam across while my brother and I stayed near the shore swimming among the lilipads

We also visited a castle beside a lake where their donjon was partially in the water; that would have been brutal for prisoners, not to mention the heating bill lol

Aaand I went to some large metropolis where I picked up a sandstone Swatch

Lugano and then Zurich. From Zurich we did a tour up into the mountains as well as seeing the city. Since Lugano sits close to the border with Italy, we also popped over to Milan for a few days. Expo was there that year. Lovely city and the food ... mwah!

Chillon on Lake Geneva maybe? I haven't been there but it is quite famous. Byron even wrote a poem called The Prisoner of Chillon.

Is there anything mor destructive than a raging essence of spirit?

Conflict resolution is an alien art ... mostly because of the lack of knowledge and wisdom .. there is no love for it as in philosophy!
