Minnesota, Church politics, and Don Lemmon

I just came across this. The people up in the ranks of this church and what they stand for and support (ICE), are what they were protesting, not peoples’ freedom to come together to love Jesus and one another. ICE encourages the polar opposite (pardon the pun).

(I read headlines and a blurb about his arrest - figured it was related to everything going on in Minnesota. But I just learned exactly why that one happened in that church.)

And Don Lemmon was there, as a journalist, lawfully reporting on a newsworthy event. He wasn’t there for the sermon or as a protester.

In Canada, if these types of protests were to happen, I’d rather they’d keep it outside of churches (except maybe when used as town-halls) as they’re not exactly public buildings. Peacefully, safer, and more visible to passersby - and Canadians probably would - but press freedom at protests is important.

THere is (or at least was I think it is still there) a piece in the Criminal Code about disrupting public worship so yes such protests could be illegal in Canada. IIRC some Affirming congregations have looked it up incase the anti-Affirming crowd showed up for services.

Is there? These guys, formerly of London but currently stirring things up in the Lower Mainland (Kind of glad they're gone but too bad someone else got stuck with their BS), have been charged with many things but never one specific to disrupting a service. Creating a disturbance, public nuisance, and now hate crime charges.

I don't go downtown much so never saw them in action. And I am male so unless they thought I looked "gay", I would have been off their radar. Of course, "looking gay" was the source of a lot of the bullying I took in high school so who knows.

The implications are phenomenal ... especially what people will accuse you of regardless! Myself I can't see them acting that way for reason ... thus irrationally is ...

It is still there, SEction 176. I wonder ho often it gets used???

Ever notice how some froth around the mouth when onto church sayings ... wild syntax! There was a whole community attracted to such loud expressors ... it repeats because of some lacking portion!

I have heard of these "street preachers" and how they harass people in the streets.
I did once experience a stranger come into a worship experience and attempt to hijack the discussion and totally derail the gathering.

Remember when those 'Alpha" meetings were trendy? (The late 90's, and early 2000's.)
They were a series a dinner gatherings, where participants would have dinner together, then watch an Alpha sermon,
and break into discussion groups to discuss the spiritual issue.
Well, I was in my discussion group of about 8, and a total stranger just walked into the church (this was the days before doors were routinely
locked after an activity started, and anyone coming late had to ring the bell or text someone in the building.)
This stranger walked into our little breakout room, and quickly hijacked the discussion we were having. He told us we were wasting our time,
and the United Church has it "all wrong." He said these discussion groups were a total waste of time. He said that Nine-Eleven was God's judgement
on lax North American values. (This was less than 5 years after 9-11.) He said that God chose to collapse the Twin Towers and kill those people as a punishment for not being "vigilant" about Christianity, and allowing 'other religions to grow unchecked." I remember some people in our small group engaged in the conversation of telling him he was wrong, but I said nothing. My instincts were telling me not to engage with this individual, because that would just feed his hatred and racism, and escalate the situation.
I remember we had no idea what to do. We had small group leaders (Alpha leaders) who had been trained in small group leadership, but had not been trained in what to do if an intruder just walked in to hijack the discussion and derail the proceedings. This person left after giving about 15 minutes of nasty, offensive stuff. He never returned again to the rest of the Alpha meetings.

A local congregation was disrupted mid service by an anti-affirming individual several years ago. He had been hanging around Sunday mornings leaving flyers on cars.

As the story goes, an older woman in the congregation told him he wasn't welcome and asked him to leave. So he did. It was a "see here young man" sort of thing.

Some of us find the implications fantastic ... even phenomenal. Some of my relatives bought an extremist into an affirming meeting and it caused no end of violent reaction from people you wouldn't expect it from ... expect-o-rants ... related to belladonna!

They can have violently opposite effects ... spitting ugly?
