Okay, I wasnt sure where to put this.
Most everyone has heard of this story about Kayla Lemieux, who is a shop teacher at an Oakville School who has size Z breasts, that up until recently was under fire by the school board for wearing breast prosthetics, a wig and dresses in female clothing. This continuously distracts the students. They have also have had bomb threats at the school because of this. The school was considering a dress code in order to lessen the effect of the overly large breasts that reveal her/his nipples through her/his shirts which has been ongoing prior to last December. Many thought she was transgendered and this is how she dressed.
She/He now states that she is intersex and that her size Z breasts are not prosthetics but real, and she has a condition that is called
Gigantomastia and can also be called macromastia (breast hypertrophy).
She states she also has XX chromosomes and hypersensitivity to estrogen. Of course her medical info is confidential, so no proof can be demanded by the school board.
This is a recent announcement.
To add fuel to the fire, a reporter followed her home, and insists he took pictures of her coming out of her apartment, dressed like a man without the breasts.
She claims it isnt her, the reporter says it is.
What should this school board do IYO?

Unfortunately, the media has got ahold of this and sensationalized it all. This should be between the teacher and the school board, and our opinions should count dick all. I feel that judging this based on what has been reported in the media is likely working with incomplete information or possibly even mis/disinformation, so I refuse to do it.

Also unfortunately, the right wing is going to use this to push their transphobic agenda. Another game that I refuse to play.

The school board's handling of it has not helped either. They have not exactly been consistent or transparent at times.

Probably not what you're looking for but that's my .02.

I looking for whatever you want to say or not.
I agree the school board has not handled it well, and now this is international news.

I'm a little concerned she may have been forced to reveal a medical diagnosis on her own, to justify her preference.

As a shop teacher I think it would be reasonable to get Health and Safety involved. There's safety aspects beyond typical dress codes when it comes to shop.

It's been in the news (sadly) around here for a long time. Group of parents incensed about it, leader of which is a lawyer. "We just want to be heard by the board" they often claim. I would say the board IS hearing them, just disagreeing with them on solution they want implemented - which is a different issue from not being heard. There does seem to be a societal expectation now that if one speaks up then others should jump in response. Sigh.

Hadn't heard anything (yet!) about her recent announcements of health condition.

That the school is getting bomb threats is extremely disconcerting. WTF people???? What are we devolving into??

Although that could be exaggerated a bit too. Concerning, yes. Not surprising when this is the media it gets tied in. What school hasn't had a bomb threat?

I was wondering that myself, but then again, what if someone with a disability,(for example) wanted to teach shop? If someone proves they can do it, it should be okay, shouldnt it?

No. Being able to do something vs. being able to do something safely is not the same. i can light a bunsen burner with my hair down, it doesn't mean that I should. It's people who really understand the safety aspect should be brought in.

It's new "news".
It's getting creepy that reporters are following her around now.
I also heard that the board hasn't even had a discussion about the situation with her at all...but not sure if that's true or not.

But if she has large breasts, she more than likely has had to learn to deal with it throughout her teachers training for the coarse. And she must have had good references?

Did she have large breasts during the training?
I have heard of her before, but I haven't followed this over time. Information that appears to come from her is that she started taking hormones in 2021, and her breast size is in response to that. When did she become a shop teacher?

I dont know when she started teaching shop, but that is what she is currently doing at an Oakville Ontario high school.

I did 1 search to see if it came up, the article had a video. I don't usually use shop type of equipment, what I saw didn't appear to be following typical safety procedures though. That's when being filmed.

That I couldnt really comment on because I dont know their standards.

There was a picture in the news of Kayla and a boy that later came out of her apt. A reporter said they were the same person. They had the same facial features and supposedly a mole in the same place...It can be googled if interested.

Can anybody get fired for improper dress? What would be examples?
We have a fairly loose dress code at work. If there is a problem, we generally just talk to the person and let them know the expectations and they shape up. Been there, done that. Firing would likely be for a pattern of workplace issues with improper dress being part of that pattern, not just for the improper dress.

Although if it is a safety violation it typically escalates faster.

That would be true for our delivery team and maybe our clinical team (though clinical doesn't wear any safety gear per se, they don PPE on site when required). Doesn't really affect my group since we don't have a uniform or required safety gear like boots or gloves.
