Is Galen Weston a deliberate liar or brain injured? Loblaw's profits rose more than twice as fast as sales but he insists grocers have no responsibility for inflation in food prices. How can he disconnect profits from food prices?

Okay, let's think about this a bit.

1. Sales and profits are related but not in a simple linear way. You can increase profits without increasing sales by reducing costs. You can have increasing sales without increasing profits if costs go up. So you can't argue a simple linear relationship using only sales, you need to see the full balance sheet.
2. Yes, I think Loblaws et al. (it isn't just them) are likely profiteering to some degree. But they aren't the sole cause of the price hikes. They are piggybacking on economic conditions that already existed. Economics is never as simple as "a does b and c happens".
3. Boycotting Loblaws et al. won't fix the underlying conditions that they piggybacked on. If the cost of the supply chain is up, prices go up. So removing the excess price increases on the retail end just means you don't have as big an increase, but you still have one. In fact, it would not surprise to find that middle men like distributors and shippers are profiteering, too.

So I agree with you, but I also think we need to avoid simplistic thinking on either side. In the realm of economics, simplicity is rare.
