I get that. The pastry is usually quite sweet, which reinforces that expectation, although in fact, it works well because "protein plus sweet" is pretty good.
And my pickiness with meat borders on sensory processing disorder level I think. I would have likely been happy to eat if I knew what it was.

Sometimes the opposite is true, though, particularly when you're younger. I was not told what escargots were the first time I tried them. Once it was ascertained that I really liked them, my godparents told me.

Just being aware it's a new food can help though, so not expecting it to be different than what it actually is.

We were talking about that a few days ago when an individua decided he didn't like a vegetable because a sibling didn't! Then years later to discover the error in her tastes ... this may be multilingual in nature ... depending on the code bier!
