Capitalism or Socialism?

And it's shabby, rusty, dirty and full of sand and dog hair now, at 11 years (and it has a back door chronically full of water, lol). But it still starts every time I ask it to.

I love the idea of body pods to feed a tree. I wanna turn into a tree...
In 2020, organic pods are easily available online along with the mushroom suit. Organic pods cost $457 whereas the mushroom suit costs $1500. (Luke Perry's choice)

The small pod biodegradable urns cost $457, and that doesn’t factor in the cost of cremation or burial plots. The average cost of direct human capitalized cremation is $1,100.

If you own land, it may be a perfect place to plant a tree burial pod.

Be sure to check your local laws though, as not every jurisdiction allows for human remains to be buried on private property, even if it’s in the form of ashes.

Also note that if you ever decide to move it may be quite challenging to relocate the planted tree, which could be distressing for your family.

Many people have been opting for a conservation burial to avoid this dilemma.

In a conservation burial, burial fees are paid to an entity that uses those funds to acquire land and protect it in perpetuity.

The burial capital for a conservative cemetery or natural burial preserve can cost anywhere between $1,000 and $4,000.

While this isn’t a small price tag, it goes to a worthy cause, protecting land for years to come.

Unless of course the desecration of sacred and burial sites by another capitalistic administration calls for undermining such protection.

Since we are now talking about Cars ... My stepson who has no legal license to drive recently purchased a 'caravan' for 500$ paid about 100$ for temporary insurance till it could be safty-fied ... then advertised for co-operative driving companions to share the expenses of traveling in that van from Manitoba to B.C. in the hopes of being able to park and live in said van and perhaps become employed as a fruit picker. Before he left he brought the van around to our place and we helped him convert the cargo area to a bedroom of sorts and also furnished it with 'bugout' supplies that we had on hand and sent him on his merry way with our blessings. He made it to B.C. without incidence of forfeit or seizure by 'authorities' along the way. We haven't really heard much from him since ... that was in August. Aiding and abetting such a 'criminal' ... finds me guilty of ... socialism?

I have a suggestion for you/him. My son is a bit of an itinerant poet/artist/homeless person. He's a bit established in a spot right now, but it's always a bit tenuous.

What he does, when he's "on the move" is take cute selfies of him and his "ride". It's a clue.

Would it start if I asked it to?

Cute story. I owned a Honda Civic the last year they had a manual choke. There was no-one except me who could juggle gas, manual transmission and brakes to make the pink rocket "go" in the end.

He keeps in touch in as much as he is inclined to do so ...

... Where there's a will, there's a way
Or so they say
A friend in need is a friend indeed
He'll be there every day
And if it's trouble that's in store
You know they'll tell you even more
Where there's a will, there's a way
That's what they'll say ...
Take the Long Road Home . Love 2u2

He 'gets me' most of the time (but sometimes he puts me on ignore).

I own an old 4 cyl Forester ... god for getting rough boxes to the cemetery in the volunteer job of looking after the dead ... gets 30 mpg whatever it is being used for ... of course maybe a horse would do or a relative ... mule?

"union patriotism",
All of my Hondas have been assembled in Ontario save my first CRV from before it became a crossover based on the Civic. Those early truck chassis CRVs were imports from Japan. The current ones are built alongside the Civic and some other Honda and Acura models in Alliston. Not a union shop, but definitely keeping Canadians gainfully employed and well-paid.

That would be the socialist way.
My neighbour would likely call it, "being a neighbour." He is an eighty+ year-old retired farmer and trenching contractor from Essex County and that's how rural people of that era treated each other. Nothing to do with any ideology. In fact, he sometimes has Conservative signs on his lawn during elections.

And that's one thing I think people miss. Neo-liberal conservatism is fairly new. I suspect some old school Progressive Conservatives are/would be appalled by some of things being said and done by the modern CPC. Old school conservatism was less about capitalism and corporatism and more about preserving tradition, including the tradition of caring for/about those around us.

Liberalism (in the sense of promoting a free market and capitalism) got into the mix later, retaining only allegiance to certain traditional institutions like the church, monarchy and military from older conservatism. And, sadly, a certain amount of sexism, racism, and xenophobia that goes with that allegiance.

I have no idea what the 'political persuasion' of our neighbors might be ... some are good neighbors and others report us for having organic debris too close to the street front. Most recently our immediate neighbors have gotten together and managed to fill our woodshed with seasoned and split wood for this winter... Plus chopped down some of our more dangerous trees (aspens here tend to rot at the top and are prone to snapping in wind rain and or snow). The new wood has also been split and stacked ready for next winter. Much co-operation and a bit of cash and other goods disbursed and all respective needs have been met. I could go on and on about the co-operation that goes on within this neighborhood. In terms of the 'state' these neighborly transactions would no doubt be considered as tax evasion or some such nonsense.

Not really. No money is changing hands, which is where the government tends to get grumpy. The old farmer and I help each other out quite a bit. And I get on well with the couple on the other side but they have an adult son at home who does most of the work. He helps us with snow-clearing, though (they have a blower, we don't).

Can we agree that the Biblical narratives point us towards a prosperous human being?
Yes. Murder and communism too.

Acts 5:1 "Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet. 3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.” 5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him. 7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?” “Yes,” she said, “that is the price.” 9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.” 10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events."
A society ruled by fear.

The Bible is a book of stories. One of the stories is about a sower who sowed good seed. Then along comes an adversary and sows bad seed among the good. Imagine a farmer sowing wheat and then nature bringing forward weeds. The farmer's task will be to separate the wheat from the weeds. The wheat will be used to feed his family. The weeds will be burned in a fire.

So it is with the Bible. Some have written verses, chapters and books with the intention of serving the good of humanity. As time moved forward others added verses, chapters and books. These generally to serve private interest. The text you cite may be considered as an example. How many have used such texts to justify the dominance of one group over an other?

Truth is like silver hidden in a lump of coarse materials. Tossing that lump into the fire will burn away the coarse materials and make present the silver. Some take the Bible as a literal truth. I do not. I take it as a metaphoric opportunity to discover insight and encouragement concerning the way of my life in this present world order.

That said, I appreciate your critical concern regarding the Bible. It helps me refine my own understanding by raising questions requiring careful thought.

This is a perfect example of someone coming along and sewing weeds. Not just the weeds, but the weed sewers are going to be cast in the fire.

One of the main takeaways of the Dead Sea scrolls was that it proved that the content of scripture was painstakingly preserved over the centuries.

Now I am thinking of Danial cast into the fiery furnace and coming out untouched by the flames.
