A couple other notes:
  • You do not have to use NRSV. That's my preference, but if you prefer something else, by all means use it.
  • You do not have to come up with a cute title. That's just me being playful. Title it however you like, though putting the chapter reference in brackets as I do is recommended so people know what to expect.

This coming Sunday, we have our first BPotW from the Christian scriptures offered by @jimkenney12, which also makes it the first one offered by someone other than me. He has chosen Acts 10:1-48 if you want to read ahead to get ready. Jim has some good thoughts to offer on the theme of the story, too.

I am planning a BPotW this week and it is one of the biggies (to make up for no action recently). So dust off (or boot up) your Bible and read Genesis 2:4-3:24. Yep, that one with the fruit, the serpent, and first humans.

Remember going in that this is about our ideas, reactions, and thoughts on the passage presented. There are no "right" answers here, just our honest reactions to the stories.

Going to give this another try this weekend. You can bone up on your Obadiah. It's only one chapter and not a long one so the BPoTW will be the whole book.

And once again, @paradox3 is offering a BPoTW this coming weekend. The last one generated some interesting discussion so looking forward to this one. The bible passage and P3's title are:

Luke's Lulu: Dishonesty Commended?
Luke 16: 1-12

She's baaaack.

This week, as she alluded to in the previous BPoTW discussion, @paradox3 is back with another parable for us to mull over and comment on.

Another Lulu: Luke's Unjust Judge (Luke 18: 1-8)

Surprise BPoTW this week. @jimkenney12 posted an interesting thread on John 21 so I thought that, with Jim's okay, I would make it a BPoTW.

So after our surprise BPoTW of this week, we are going to have a planned one for next. Jim Kenney is kicking it off again. If you want to get ready, it's Numbers 22 which talks about Balaam's nice ass.

Um, maybe I worded that badly?

;)

New one in our Advent series going up tomorrow. Going with Luke 1 and the story of Zechariah, Elizabeth, and Mary for the next one. It's a more dramatic, interesting start to the story, I think, than the genealogy in Matthew. Of course, it also points to a different meaning for the events. Join us tomorrow!

Next up is a short one: Matthew 1:18-25, which recounts in brief what went down when Joseph found out Mary was pregnant without his involvement (or so the story goes). Coming tomorrow morning!

And next week, the leadup to Christmas weekend, will be Luke 2:1-20, covering the familiar version of the birth and Shepherds.

The following part of Luke, Jesus' circumcision, naming, and presentation in the temple rightly follows Christmas so I'll skip Christmas weekend (people are probably too busy with family stuff anyhow) and pick up again the next weekend with Luke 2:21-40.

And then, of course, we will kick off the new year with Matthew 2, though I am leaving on vacation the weekend of Epiphany (it's on Friday this year and I leave the next day) so I'll get it up on Epiphany but might not be around for the discussion.

Currently thinking that I will post the discussion of the Epiphany story (Matthew 2) on Sunday or Monday of next week. That gives a few days of discussion while I am still around. I will just include the whole chapter so that the escape to Egypt and return are part of the discussion. Just giving a heads-up so people can read up.

And our second BPoTW in the new forum is going to be presented and led by @paradox3. The reading is Matthew 17: 24 - 27 (NRSVUE link below) and comes with the intriguing working title of "Some Fishy Finance." So read up and get your thoughts together. The thread will go live sometime tomorrow.

@paradox3 is back this weekend with another interesting piece from the Gospels. The title is For Mom: Water into Wine. The bible passage is John 2:1-11.

Coming soon to a BPoTW forum near you:

@Redbaron is hosting our next discussion starting this weekend. The passage is Matthew 17:1-13, which is the transfiguration story, and his intriguing title is "Moses, Elijah, and Jesus! Oh My!" So give the passage a read and get ready to talk about it.

Almost forgot to announce this week's thread. @jimkenney12 is our host/leader for a discussion of the testing of Jesus as found in the synoptic gospels. Read up and get ready to discuss.

Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13

Coming soon!

We do have a new BPoTW coming tomorrow. Turning once again to the Gospel According to John, @paradox3 is inviting us to discuss "Nicodemus at Night". The story of Nicodemus can be found in John 3: 1-21.

Watch for it!

Yes, even with snow up to our eyeballs, there is a BPoTW this week. Once we find Snoopy under all that snow, at least. :D

Tomorrow's BPoTW is The Second Sign looking at John 4: 46-54 with @paradox3 kicking things off.
