Basic Income ... Good? Bad? Ugly?

I am not sure I understand what is wrong with my sources ... Faith Goldy is running for Mayor of Toronto and she has every right to do so does she not? She is running to win ... and it is not too far fetched to think that she could. Trump won. Ford won. There are people that would like Jordan Peterson to run for PM and there are people that want Faith Goldy to be mayor of TO and then go for Premier or Prime Minister herself. That mainstream media is not paying attention to her does not negate that she is a legitimate candidate.

I'm not sure if a white nationalist anti-Semite has the right to run, in Canada, either. It would be nice if they didn't get a platform - especially not an electoral one..

It's not entertaining, it's horrifying. Especially in light of what Doug Ford is trying to do to city council - which could eliminate much of the opposition to people like her.

His is a downright fascist move.

I'm sorry ... is this not the process that you support. You vote for your favorite candidate - if that candidate does not win - you have to respect the winner (legally) and you get to play the lottery again next election.

Well, personally, I don’t like white nationalists running in the first place - I don’t think voices like hers deserve legitimizing, based on history - because it is ideology that blatantly undermines certain populations’ rights to exist - and I don’t like far right a**hole politicians making unilateral moves to undermine the Charter of Rights to limit voices opposed to people like Goldy. That’s not “fair game”. That’s playing really dirty.

People like Goldy and Peterson...and Ford, only have support because people like Trump (the fake ‘everyman’), Trump’s spin doctor and right wing media kingpin Bannon, and Bannon’s “alt-news” warrior Alex Jones, and Peterson (the low key Canadian who is also advocating for the wrong side of history), either bring out the worst xenophobia in people based on lies and propaganda they are spreading through their platforms, and/ or backing it up with bigoted pseudoscience. So they end up trying to “rig” the game because they know people are more likely to vote for bulls**t to justify their xenophobic anger - stirred up over “foreigners and feminists”, etc. as the cause of blame for losing status they feel entitled to. That’s dirty, stinking, fascism - not a healthy democracy.

So $25 million dollars to pay for 'voices' to oppose people like Goldy because the people can not use their own voice? The voters should not be allowed to make up their own minds?

If you were in Toronto which candidate would you vote for ... it appears there are only two choices besides Goldy as far as the 'proper sources ' report.

Most likely, if I lived there - though I am not certain because Toronto’s functional issues are not super familiar to me - my choice would be Jennifer Keesmaat.

If you are referring to the cost of elections, without some structure how do you give form to people’s voices so things can get done? And if you are so critical why did you campaign as a part of a similar process in another city, for your friend? You supported the process that costs the kind of money that you resent paying into, but you didn’t even vote for the person you campaigned for. That makes no sense to me.

Look ... I love my friend Doug ... I am glad that he is not a politician any more. I am not sorry that I had the experience of volunteering to work on a few political campaigns. I realized that it was not something that I wanted to contribute any of my time to in the future. Were anyone to ask me today to work on their 'campaign' ... I would refuse no matter how much I loved them. Live and learn. Life experience. Hindsight is 20 20. I have no real opinion on who is better to be in a position of governmental 'authority'. What I do know is that none of them have authority over me. They have power to enforce me to tow their line ... but not to any real degree now that I am older and wiser. I am not overly afraid of being homeless any more. Any dependents that I had are now able to choose their own path ... so I do not have to do anything I do not want to do to 'pay' my own way. A basic income would come in real handy right about now but I am not holding my breath. I am ready to simplify ... perhaps even untangle myself from this world wide web. I have quit binge drinking and smoking cigarettes ... maybe it is time to quit the internet ...

Live and learn. Fair enough. You're all set, but that doesn't mean your outlook will work for those less fortunate than you.

I still don't understand how you think society should function. There's some structure, though the goal less hierarchical than the status quo, with democratic socialism - but there's a framework to keep it functional. Libertarians, and not just you - seem have this general idea of freedom - but no structure or accountability and no idea how they are going to have the things they want or what they need to do. It's just "freee-dum!" - and then what? Survival of the fittest? Lord of the Flies? Wild West Robber Barons? ...really, they never seem to have a good plan. And with no good plan, that creates a vacuum where they fall prey to being swayed by whacky conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones, and racists . That's part of it, anyway.

Exit Polity?????????

How we lose our parts ...

I think Ritafee has a point actually. I don't have a problem with anyone running. Where I have a problem is when 'they' - clowns like Donald Trump, Doug Ford, Faith Goldy - win. Tells me that a lot more of my neighbours are a lot dumber than they appear.

or it tells you that they are really pi**ed, and will vote for change.

What is bizarre is the party politics that let trump, ford get to be the candidate for the party.

Exactly. The Ontario PCs had two good mainstream conservative options (Elliott and Mulroney) but chose to play the populist card and put Ford in the driver seat.

And, to be honest, they didn't need Ford Nation or any other populist boost. They had this one in the bag as long as they didn't screw it up. A trained monkey could have led them to victory.

Yet ... some say there is no such thing as a social psyche ... regardless of how stunned because of leadership to the edge ... Lost Horizon ... somethings dipped ...
