I am hearing reports of multiple issues with Xenforo on iOS 13, the latest build of the core software on the iPhone and iPad. It only affects the new version so if you're using an older device and haven't updated, you should be okay. People buying the latest devices or updating to 13 might see issues with pasting and using the search function. This apparently affects all browsers used on the iPhone/iPad, not just Safari. The next patch to iOS might fix it (yes, it's an Apple issue, not a Xenforo issue or a browser issue).

Since I'm not a Apple user myself (quite the opposite, in fact), I'm relying on reports from the Xenforo Community forums on this one and can't really demo or test it as I did the Firefox problems.

If you're going reconditioned, you might be able to get something like an older Samsung, maybe a Galaxy S7 or S8 (I currently carry an S9 and the S10 is the current model). However, I wonder if that would actually be much cheaper than getting a new second tier phone like a Samsung Galaxy A (not sure what's current in that line) or a second tier brand like ASUS.

I broke my Samsung Note 4 over a year ago and went second (maybe even third) tier with a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, which I really like. I had to buy it from an importer on Amazon, but it's been solid, and the battery, while annoyingly not replaceable, has been great.

See what other brands your carrier offers, but something like an Asus may fit the bill. Also, the lower end Samsungs aren't bad if you're not into gaming on your phone and aren't looking for the best camera.

If I had to go and replace this Xiaomi, this is the sort of thing I might replace it with today:

That's also about what I paid for my phone a year ago. A sub $300 phone that performs like a recent flagship phone is nice.

You do have to check that the phone you buy from a third party will work on your network. That's very important. For that reason, most people should probably source their phone from their network provider (Bell, Telus, Rogers and their resellers), but they are offering lower cost alternatives, if not crazy bang-for-the-buck offerings like the one above.

I would wait until Black Friday and you can probably get a free phone and cut a great deal for data and price at the same time.

True, the less expensive phone plans often come with a budget phone now. The better plans are available for less money with a BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) option.

That is, I think, what Little M is packing right now. He rooted it and replaced Xiaomi's OS with stock Android Pi (hey, he's in computer engineering so it counts as practice ).

I haven't bothered. I use a custom launcher (Evie), and that's about it.

Oh, probably. Rooting phones is really above my pay grade anyway. If I wanted to do something like that, I'd wait until he's home.

I have the A8, it had some features not in the S line at the time actually. Not sure about the S10 though. Bixby isn't voice active on the A8, but I don't see the need to Bixby and Google (which does follow voice commands for everything I want).
