Anti-2SLGBTQAA+ Protest today

That was the purported reason for it. The LGBTQ2S+ people I know are terrified. Of being forced back into boxes, which become closets.

I know a bunch of terrified people too.

I met a lot of kids in my work. Many came from horrible or plain dysfunctional homes. The blind focus on parental rights opens up a lot of potential for various forms of abuse. I imagine most parents want to determine how they raise their children. That is different from the "parental rights" I'm seeing in the protesters. People I've met with those views often do not recognize children's rights. Children are a form of property and don't get their own rights until they leave home.

Then there's the whole "promoting" transgenderism. Are they even aware of how small a percentage of people fall under that group? People don't just whimsically transition to the other gender. Some may "try out" aspects of the other gender. They don't come out and go through the process of transitioning on a whim. It takes a lot of courage to come out. Most that I've met want to be "normal" in the worst way.

This happened at a high school in Kitchener. The same high school where I was bullied for being "gay" for five years in the late 70s-early 80s. I can picture the exact spot where the flag burning happened. Throw the book at them. That's all I can say. Too bad it will likely be written off as "kids being kids" or something. Just like they did back then.

Seems like the world has changed less than we thought.

Definitely things are getting out of hand....let them lose a year of school and come back next September.

I just watched the protest and counter protest in my city. It just made me sad. There seemed to be no way that either side could understand the other side. It was accusations and determining that opinions meant hatred. I think some parents are legitimately scared about how to talk to their kids about 2SLGBTQAA+ . And they don't trust that the school system is the best way to initiate the talk, especially with the very young. I see openings for collaboration. I see discomfort more than hatred. And I fear that stand-offs, and labels do nothing to bring people together to do the best for the kids (which would be to understand and accept diversity within a loving and supportive family). I believe in the right to protest, but I don't think this particular protest and counter-protest led to anything positive. This is not very United Church of me to say this.
Just wanted to write you to say bless you for writing this
You have a keen sensibility
Yes a lot of what is really going on is lost in the sturm n drang of black and white thinking

The Confederate wing of the GOP-created Culture War is here

This mixed with Woke Level 9 in the USA...

Doesn't work :(
Well I am not completely convinced of this. I think this can be a very nuanced thing but there is no room for nuance in any of the public discourse going on. From either side, from what I can see.
Bless you for writing this
Yes
You like Nancy have a keen sensibility
The actual nuances are lost
Some of it makes sense because some of my Wokerati comerades follow Ibrahim Kendi's invention of Anti-Racism, which doesn't have nuance but rather gives two choices but only one of which is valid

There are us ordinary LGBTfolx
There are the actual baddies
There are ordinary CIS folx and concerned parents

And these nuances can be lost, where any criticism of Wokist policies can be seen as "TRANSPHOBIA!" or whatever

(it reminds me of those days not that long ago when any criticism of Catholicism was very bad...or right now with Islamophobia...)

It doesn't help that part of the Wokerati rubric is difficult to null hypothesis :(

I will write more on this later

The kids will be alright

Now look at the supposes rise in Jew and Arab hate crimes...:(

ps had a great time at the event i went to
reminded me of Pride Parades and OCW and Peace Protests, very diverse group of freaks and straights

Are nuances like wraiths and other wispy, ephemera in the trees?

Things that real folx can't see well as in mythical form! Takes considerable abstract ...

I just want to add one more thing here. Children take their cues from adults. If a child wondered about another person's looks or behaviour, they soon learned that it did not prejudice me to that child. They learned that acceptance and understanding were how we treated each other. Many classes I taught had students who were on the autism spectrum, for example. Similarly, if a child talked about an event with two dads or two moms, I would have accepted it as I would any story that was told by a student. If others questioned, I would just respond...Some people have two moms. Chances are that some students would then pipe up that they knew that. If there were negative responses I would deal with that too (perhaps by reading one of those story books). And I would have no problem reading a children's book with two moms or two dads...as long as it was a good book. The concern about sexualizing children at too young an age is real though. I remember that I was supposed to teach certain things to Kindergartens that I didn't think they were ready to learn, or I didn't think parents would approve. Government and school board curriculum doesn't always get it right inmho. So...if parents have concerns, maybe there is a reason and we should not dismiss it.

Again @Nancy, bless you :3

All that nuance unfortunately gets lost :(

And I know of some people who would call you Fascist or Transphobic or such for writing that...and if there are enough of them (and with all the Protected Class Nature of LGBTetc, so Law is behind it and also social norms now)...

I am currently talking with a fellow LGBTer who seems to believe those who walk with Nazis are Nazis...so guilt by association...I have seen that played oot before recently in the USA...

Keep up the empathy and being willing to talk

Here was my experience:

The crowd was very cool today

Funniest question was rainbow lass askingme which side I was on

I told her I am on the side of Humanity

(i figgered she wanted an either or black and white answer)

Then I told her I am genderfucked and her friend said to her look at the nails

Here is my write up so far

"There was a Million Men March at the Left Coast, today and it was a great time

Lots of pretty people, very diverse, ancaps, anarchs, free marketeers, hippies dippies yippies yuppies puppies trads 1st gen immigrants trans terfs swerfs bi tri lye high fishgender toygender tops bottoms switches sides masters slaves Jesus freaks atheists antitheists none of the above Asians Europeans Fijians Chinese Jamacian global citizens nationalists antinationalist socialists BLMerss oh my!

some people even taking the time and effort to get past the slogans and simple thinking and talking with each other

some with anger, anxiety, hate, fear...

Peace and agape,, baybee

short event, too

good music food trucks mostly peaceful too
1f642.png

Canada lives and works!

like the protestcelebratioparades of old"

Tigger was there giving hugs

And it seemed that the majority of Million Men Marchers were 1st gen immigrants

Too bad people boo'd them instead of engaging

Much too easy to Other, Demonize and Scapegoat

So I went there and sent oot God's love
(helped by an Indiginous technique I have learned)

Perfect agape chases away all fear

There are legitimate reasons why some.parents are concerned

If people would only try to find oot

Avoiding easy answers

Requires love...which isn't a feeling...something more important and deeper than that

It was such a good experience

My fav experience: two people spending at least 45 minutes coming to grok the other's position

That unfortunately gets lost in the sturm n drang

Also had an interesting experience with posting an attempt at community building to Reddit

Wow

Too much bizarre reactions to positivity

Got some good ones from.people who grokked

I think things have got so borked that even if Gandhi or Jesus came back they could be downvoted to oblivion or even called a -phobe

CRAZY!!! :)

But no matter what, return with love

Can you imagine folks that claim to be for total democracy by oppressing democratic type? So it goes down as a lesser power in reality and the demos only exist in the virtue of mine ... they even removed the wheels of the device that might half support them ...

Here is some of what went on

As you can see, quite diverse group of fellow freaks

And bless me for not recognizing Antifa until this vid

You shoulda been there

Only 1 arrest and 1 scuffle I heard

Lots of MutualAid

People coming oot dressed

Like Pride Parades I am used to :)

Earlier upthread @Mendalla mentioned Pierre Poilievre as catering to the extremists. His stepfather is gay. Do you think that affects his stance?

I wondered what teaching materials are used. Is there any chance the info is given to allow a vocabulary for molestation? They need that because as hideous as it sounds, that age group is targeted because they can't express what's happening. I know it's a dilemma, but I believe I would prefer that to leaving them "innocent" and thereby vulnerable. Thoughts?

Aren't the teaching materials available for viewing by the public?

(hoid onna news some of the 1st gen immigrant concerns were due to their teachers not able to answer their questions and to get the online info they had to join a group so three barriers to getting info...and all feelings are valid...)

I'm glad you maven have joined in :3
