My problem with proportional representation is promoting partisanship. My preference is multi member ridings with a minimum of three representatives and at least five members in large urban areas with a single vote for voters which could be transferrable. The candidates with the most votes would be the representatives. Smaller parties like the Greens would only need to have one candidate in each riding and they could focus their resources on fewer candidates. Independents would have a greater chance of getting elected and mostly it would be the best candidates of each party that would be getting elected. This system would respect voters who are not committed to any particular party.

In areas like rural Alberta, multi member ridings would result in some non Conservatives being elected in areas that are usually totally Conservative. In the Maritimes, it would result in more representatives that are not Liberal.

Important to me would be the opportunity to seek help from a representative that was closer to one's values than often happens now.

Still under the natural law of power .. it would blow ... and destroy the original intent ...

It is just how it is according to Acton! Generates wind drift and the cranking of windmills ... lords of power?

Expect blasts ... these appear to make the world go round ... but the virtue in the cause is buried ... understood as sacred? According to the great opus (work to be revealed) we are not to approach such a tree or scheme as produced ...

Yet there are rare cases that cross that line ... and learn something from the opposition ... the alter Nates! One has to look them up and down ... peri 'od pieces? Mere specks in the vast darkness ... ast R's?

Word something to be understood as innate ... well contained! Thus we stuff that away ... out of touch of tyrants ... they are determined to know not alien and fresh stuff as Noos ... cleansed brains ... often difficult to wash ... like law Renzo in the arid regions ... A rabs pot ... caldron of one sort or another ...

Sometimes difficult to draw intellect out of the myth ... one must be supra ... patient ... in the spin ... INglish? Still glitches ... wrinkles!

200 more representatives have to be paid, housed, fed, have offices, staff.

Doesn't have to be done by adding representatives, though. Election boundaries could be enlarged so that you have two reps per riding without adding substantially, or at all, to the number of MPs.

Without doing a drastic change another option is to alter how regions with lower representation get rounded. PEI gets special treatment, but ON and Quebec already control much of the election. Should any AB, BC, SK, etc. riding be a greater population than ON and QC when the latter 2 have so mych control already? I also wonder, how many people in Toronto or Montreal are thrown into a rural riding?

Which does not fir the geographical reality in large parts of this country. Some ridings are already really quite large as it is, which makes it hard ot have effective local representation (though not as much as party discpline and whipped votes makes local representation almost impossible at times)

Modern communication tools reduce the challenges of geography. It also might be a good time to assess what the responsibilities of MPs should include. A multi-member riding would give people more incentive to vote as most votes will count.

I lived in Rainbow Lake, La Crete, McLennan, Sexsmith, and Grouard so I am well aware of life in an area where friends would drive for an hour to go for a coffee and for almost two hours for pizza along with a 30 minute drive to do laundry. My first pastoral charge was about 140 km east to west and about 10 to 20 km north to south.

I am increasingly wondering if a looser, less partisan Parliament would do more good than proportional. Proportional does not really help if the members are still being whipped or have the threat of being exiled to the back bench if they do not toe the line. And mixed member proportional, where some MPs are just "padding" to make the percentages line up and don't actually represent a constituency means you actually have MPs who are really loyal only to the party, not to specific voters.

I think the success of the PPC in this election has also made me a bit leary of proportional. They came in at 5% which is exactly the level that is often proposed as the threshold for getting seats in a proportional system. While Green finished below that so we would lose them but gain a bunch of anti-immigrant alt-righters. So it means the fringe parties I like (e.g. Green) MIGHT do better but it also lets the loonies in the door. Look at Israel where tiny right wing Orthodox Jewish parties often command a disproportionate share of power by virtue of having just enough seats to make them of interest as a coalition partner.

Ranked ballot, which at least means the winner in each riding has to have 50+% of the first and second choice votes (I doubt we would often have to go to third choices) may actually be a better solution than a proportional system for our parliamentary system.

Just keep going....

How do you make sure the winner gets that many votes? None of the parties in Germany gets 50% of votes.

Another question- it seems to me, that in Canada, people actually do not have to live in the riding they are running for? How would the represent their local interest?

Explains plenty of political disinterest in the people and only the offshore business concerns that are beyond governmental control ... and the politicians favour that as they're into it too ... a viscous circle ...

Said to be some to be a tacky game ...

Multi member ridings in which the candidates with the most votes would only be elected would open the door to independents. Each party could nominate as many candidates as there are members for that riding. Smaller parties would do best nominating only one candidate. In an urban riding with 5 representatives, the fifth representative would need only 5 to 10% of the vote. The winning representatives for the major parties would be the candidates chosen by voters. Candidates from outside of the riding would have to be exceptional to succeed instead of being insiders in the party..

I have seen insider politics and would oppose any system in which the party makes the final decision on its representatives rather than voters.

Here there is a hint of abusive power ... and power appears to tend in that direction due to certain tacky and viscous order ...

Metaphorical as you cannot say much to authoritative folk ... myth and Mithra take over from virtue ... as delight in the dark! Can we all agree that Albertans voting for preference with senate in the municipal elections again after it was stopped for a bit so close to the federal election is confusing?

Kenney is desperate to strengthen his position in the UCP so he is using every meaningless card he can play that appeals to his base.

If someone wants to start a municipal thread I can move this, I don't have much to say though, so putting it here. Happy to see Sohi beat out Nickel for Edmonton mayor, almost doubling his votes based on the early results.
School boards, I'm wondering what's going to happen. My ward was impacted by the advanced voting issue (wrong ballots), I actually found out on facebook from others who had to argue with those working the election to get the right ballot. Issue was if the postal code wasn't refreshed between people the correct school ward didn't update. Then more ballots were at polling stations today.

Ok, one more post. If moving I think it should go with jokes though. I briefly came across a little bit of this at some point I think but never really paid attention. I've copied the platform as I'm unsure how long it will be up.

I'm not sure if he was serious about all of this or if it's a joke, a lost bet or what. If he does have mental illness can we hope he gets help while also laughing at the platform?

Hello Calgary!

I'd like to introduce myself. I am Paul Hallelujah, raised in Calgary 1971-. I am running for mayor this year. My training includes 4 years of Canadian medical school, a Master's in Theology from the University of Toronto, 2 years of Electrical, Computer & Geological Engineering, a Gold Medal for the top graduating GPA in my BSCH class in Environmental Biology at Queen's, a semester of Fine Art, a completed UBC Realtor's course and a handful of Carpentry classes. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a focus on Adult Psychoses as per Caraclinics.com. Currently I also run a bitcoin mining equipment store, Bitsquad.org and a crypto news and price channel at TSports.tv, an Official Theta Network partner.

Calgary and the world are sitting on the dawn of a new day - one where Science can make our communities safer, stronger and more vitally-linked to one another and to a new hope, higher than we envision in our normal day-to-day lives.

Not a politician by nature, I am running out of necessity with a platform based primarily on medically-contextualized Reform of public offices.

Being a Scientist, I feel the office of mayor can help propel some key discoveries we have made this past decade onto both local and global stages for major impact. It is time for a refocusing and revisiting of our awarenesses and intelligences.

fMRI Screening

Dr. James Cantor at CAMH in Toronto has shown detection on fMRI of pedophiles. Given the nature of predator-prey behaviour - cheetahs go to watering holes to graze upon buffalo, it is imperative for us to use this technology and screen our public trust. The Toronto Star reported in 2018 that your child is 100x times more likely to be sexually or physically assaulted by an adult in the public school system than by a priest... I've been to seminary at The University of Toronto - I'd Never leave my child alone with priests.

It is my belief that all public servants: police, teachers, doctors, nurses, judges etc. may fail in delivering safe and unbiased services to all people. fMRI can help us detect and remove such errors by scanning for common psychoses such as racism, gender discrimination and pedophilia.

Should a public servant fail an fMRI test we will offer them retraining in coordination with professional therapists, before considering sending them back out on duty, as a matter of safety.
Though controversial this policy is needed in light of the internet, reportedly 2/3 of traffic there is porn. The common spiel and ethic have degenerated to a massive extent over the last 3 decades.

Besides the public trust it seems useful to vet immigrants too with fMRI - research shows a majority in certain cultures - especially ones not educated here from youth - are prone to pedophilia. Do you want your child molested when visiting the neighbour's, as my child reported to me of Dr. Givemore Sakuhuni and his wife Loyce, in Silver Springs? Police do nothing when informed.

Cancer Controlled

In addition to clearing out the public square our research at Vaxx.in has established a plain link between eating tumor-laden meats and the expression of these cancers in new vertebrate hosts. We are tasking towards a full retool with incents for meat farmers to convert to alts.

We wish to make Calgary prosper post-CV. The city can be redesigned as a modern, healthy cancer- and meat-free zone by applying the best in modern science and medicine. Manufacture of alt protein can provide jobs to thousands. We could become a centre for export to other cities and countries with proper care.

The Primer

One more leg in our platform is in regards to a deep mystery - there is a 14,500 km-wide, Earth-sized, persistent Hexagon on Saturn's North pole - the 6th planet. There are also an equally-large Pentagon and Octagon on Jupiter's poles - 5th of 8 planets.

We are planning to respond to this Primer and build a Beacon. We believe this project is timely and has the highest potential yield of any in human history.

If we can establish Contact we expect long life as well as access to the heavens. To learn more about this project please take a look at our website Primer.zone.

New Technology

The Beacon project requires both technological advances and funding which we are pursuing at YSolar.org and Maxle.net, projects attracting interest from many professional Engineers around the country.

Taxation 101

With regards to taxes, I am fully for doing away with all forms of taxation, at every level of government. Taxation 101: Why paper the printer? It does not increase her, it simply diminishes us. It is merely a fealty play.
We are many hands and many talents, what we need is a way to visualize the future as it unfolds and embrace it together with capacity for change intrinsic to our humanity as it draws towards a new sky.
Upon analysis of the earth and reasons why we have not yet broken through to Sky fully it occurs to me alcohol is a major depressant - it leads to violence and immorality. If elected I'd transition to Prohibition of alcohol and replace it with canna beer - no ethanol, just water-soluble neuroprotectant cannabinoids in a fizzy can. Enough to get you out of yourself but not towards violence or perversion. More towards higher things, Einsteinish . Thesis: had the prohibitions been reversed in the 30s we'd have not had the rise of fascism, Hitler or WW2.

Nothing changes ... the authorities and experts wouldn't allow anyone to take a shot at improving something ... it could cause the moneybags something in the tax line ...

If was said in an alien text that all should give according to how they're given ... and the powerful have contentions with that!

Taxes shift towards the lesser classes so those that have can be excessive! In the menatime the foundation fails ... no matter where the house was constructed to be divinized ... thus bifurcation! Is that duplicons?

I don't imagine there are many Paul Hallelujahs. I thought it was an elaboratejoke and it clicked when posting here maybe not, I'm confused about all of the education programs if they aren't at least partially fabricated.
