They don’t get to complain if ...
Older persons and individuals from ethnic minority groups unable to obtain IDs necessary to have their vote counted in 'election' ... they don't get to complain?

Others will have IDs, but for a variety of reasons—such as homelessness, medical illnesses, and inflexible or strenuous labor conditions—it will prove impossible to physically attend a mid-week election or vote by mail ... they don't get to complain?

States where felons lose their right to vote forever ... they don't get to complain?

Millions of residents are not authorized to vote in elections because they are undocumented ... they don't get to complain?

Teenaged minors ineligible to vote for the next few years ... they don't get to complain?

How about the people that voted for the 'wrong' candidate last go around ... they are supposed to bear their guilt silently ... they don't get to complain?

Many people don’t vote because -- often correctly --they perceive the political system to be too heavily stacked against them to be worth a wasted morning standing in line at the polls ... they don't get to complain?

If a voter’s principled choice is to vote for third-party or insurgent candidates and then they are subjected to a 'democratic campaign' of vilification -- derided for voting for the candidate with lower odds of winning -- as, apparently, to earn the right to complain, you must settle for the Democratic Party’s candidate of choice ... they don't get to complain?

In an age when the state has no qualms about repressing dissent among its constituents—e.g., the response to critics of the surveillance state ... it is baffling to see anyone profess to love democratic processes, and urge others to self-censor in the same breath.

For what reason then, other than to feed the self-righteousness of the enforcer, should my right to complain depend on having voted?

"The only political duty of a man is to correct any injustice he directly causes and to deny his cooperation to other injustice." ...

This is the conclusion at which Thoreau's “Civil Disobedience” arrives.

The problem is often not that they are neither left nor right, but that they do have some kind of political beliefs but fail to see those beliefs reflected in anyone OR they simply don't see the process as having anything to do with them and don't give a s**t. They feel they have better things to do that impact them more directly. I know there are "conscientious objectors" who are refusing to vote because they have philosophical issues with the system as a whole (IIRC, Geofee and perhaps you fall into that group) but, to be honest, I'll bet those are in the minority and there is no way to reflect that in the voting system. The conscientious objection goes nowhere save where the objectors choose to speak about and publicize it. They just get lumped with the "I don't know" and "I don't care" groups in the bigger scheme of things.

The invisible unsubstantiated! Nobodies ... related to nowhere and nothing ... uncertain passions that wipe out intellect?

Tis a funny concept know ...

Uncounted majority as they form the lesser unknowns? What a put down ...

I was referring to those who choose not to.

In times like these, their not giving a s**t is really problematic. Their ideological opposition to voting is problematic as it’s more important to them than any efforts that are realistically being made to move forward and get some things (like green energy for example) done and to make a tangible difference, besides in their heads. They are not participating in collective action. I can see, during less turbulent times, where all options look the same, feeling apathetic. But I think we’ve reached a stage where they are clearly not all the same - to say so now is plain ridiculous - and people need to think about not wasting their opportunity to vote, in order to help the planet and others besides themselves survive.

If they are not voting now - these ideological non voters waiting for utopia - will they participate in their future communities’ structures or opt out every time the system isn’t perfect for them? We will have a lot of people self governing all alone, is what will happen if everyone is uncompromising.

Maybe Thoreau was wrong about a few things. Just because he wrote it, and it’s old, doesn’t make him right today.

Ever wonder how some dead writers might feel today, if they could put their past assumptions aside and assess the present? Or measure their past assumptions against the present?

There is not the slightest possibility we can get the major spreaders of fake news. They are the major, commercial news media. And they have been fake news for some 150 years. And if you did track them down? Do you really want a government that decides what news we should watch?

MSNBC host and conspiracy theorist Rachel Maddow moderated the first Democratic primary debate ... :ROFLMAO:

Seriously ... A journalist who pushed the Trump-Russia Collusion conspiracy was not disqualified from moderating a presidential debate?

'Journalists' should not be rewarded with plum moderator positions during the general election debates for pushing conspiracy hoaxes.

Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning should have been the moderators - but wait - the voters have spoken - torture the truth tellers!

Russia gate ... nothing more than a huge gift for Trump ... they may have handed him the next election.

Things like climate change, and a military budget of which a small fraction could end world hunger -- these are real issues.

Like "green energy for example" ... 70 minutes into a 120-minute debate ... 7 minutes were devoted to climate change.

All they were doing was asking questions of the candidates from a script. Big deal if Maddow was one of the moderators. She's not running in the election - no matter what you think of her. It doesn't really matter.

Marianne Williamson was awesome by the way. She probably won't win - but a little dose of her wing-dingy inspiration actually makes people's hearts feel a bit better. I like her. She's like good music in the background, playing at an otherwise tedious staff party. And she's right to bring up the issues she did. Maybe she'll open the conversation up more. But I'd be bowled over if she became the Dem nominee, and then POTUS.

This is what Marianne contributes to the debates. I actually appreciate a bit of harmless quirkiness - and from an emotional standpoint...she’s right on the issues. Her heart’s in the right place, and she’s not stupid (and she’s possibly a more honest and more effective business-person than him)...and since Trump always leads with his emotions, maybe she is a good opponent, maybe she can love talk him out of office, and beat him with her unconventional style ...never say never. They did elect Trump, a right wing populist reality TV star. Why not a new agey self help celebrity who is a left wing populist? We can’t exactly rule out the idea since 2016 happened (at this point nobody thinks she’ll win though). I think she could do the job better than him, at least. She wouldn’t be worse, that’s for sure. What about a Marianne/ Bernie ticket (in that order)... or a Williamson/ Harris ticket? ...Good cop/ Bad cop! The spiritual sage and the lawyer?
