I'm within two months of retiring from my professional position. I doubt I will look for casual or part-time work in my profession. I like the idea of working a few shifts in a grocery store like @BetteTheRed is doing. Earn some cash and get out of the house. We will also be living in a fifth wheel and spending time in RV parks. Many parks hire people part time to do things like check in guest, clean the facilities or deliver wood. I'd be good with that kind of job as well. I'm at a point where working five days a week is getting tiring. I don't have the same will to stay current in some areas of my profession. I'm ready to move forward to another adventure.

Ditto with me in IT. Once I retire, I'm done with computers other than as a user. I'll probably continue to be a more savvy, capable user than most in my age group but I'm not going to be a hardcore "geek" anymore. Besides, my son will probably be designing the damn things by then so I can always call him for help.

Honestly, I have seen people being too long in their position and retirement was a blessing. The old ones need to make space for the young ones. I can see it at work now, that my younger colleagues have a lot more drive than I do , comparable to where I was when I was their age. I don’t think its natural whenthe old ones don’t want to let go. You can see that in church congregations. They want young people , but mostly so they can tell them how its done. Want to see the church council who voluntarily makes a 50/50 quota for people under 35.
Retire to start a part time job in a different field sounds ok, as long as it doesn’t keep thenwages too low for employees who need to live of what they earn.

And I'm taking mainly the day time part time shifts from the students who can't work those anyway...and we all make minimum wage.

Oh, not saying that you are making more- but you have a pension, so you might be having more. And in some stores employers tend to keep people part time to avoid having to pay benefits.
