If Steve Miller is a guilty pleasure, then send me off to jail.
On my flight to Miami last Christmas (for a family cruise), they had a selection of Austin City Limits programs on the inflight entertainment system and one of the ones I watched was Miller (the other was St. Vincent). The guy's still got it after all these years.

I'm thinking "guilty "pleasure" is highly subjective! What got me started was a friend saying she and her s/o had different musical tastes. He thought her music was "flakey" and she wasn't crazy about jazz. She told me that she was glad he was away for a night because she could listen to her "flakey" music without the disparaging comments. Being in a musical family, there was snobbiness around what had merit.

It’s a good thread because “guilty pleasure” is subjective. Like you said earlier, it brings up some good playlists (because most of them are familiar) and I’ve rediscovered music I forgot that I liked!

I know someone who broke off a significant relationship because he couldn’t stand her music. He liked rock n’ roll, mostly...and she did too, but she also liked the traditional folk from their country of origin and he could not stand it because it offended his sensibilities so much, and made a point of avoiding it. Almost like big religious differences, but I don’t think either of them were religious.
I don’t think I could be married to someone, for example, who only liked top 40 pop, I don’t even know what it’s called, but the genre that would include crooning boy bands, pop girl bands, Miley Cyrus, Celina, Brittany Spears, Beiber, Justin Timberlake before he grew up a bit and did anything cool. Eg. those whose favourite singers were Celine Dion and Justin Beiber, and they hated Bob Marley and Bob Dylan. I couldn’t get my head around that. Power to ‘em but it’s more than a preference. If liking something cheesy is just a lark every once in awhile because it brings up a good memory or something, that’s different. I remember one of my high school besties liked stuff like Millie Vanilli and Glass Tiger, while I like Led Zeppelin, the Doors, The Who, U2...she thought it was too hard rock and not peppy enough and that used to frustrate the crap out of me because I liked music for the substance and meaning or poetry in the lyrics...it blew my mind to discover some of my parents’ classics and they were popular with the people I looked up to... I wanted to play a cassette in her mom’s car, we would argue about it like sisters. I haven’t talked to her in awhile. We have sent email over the years. I doubt her musical tastes have changed that much. Some people just want music to be simple and not too deep. Sometimes when artists try too hard to be deep...it can also sound stupid, as well.

Oh...and the friend who liked top 40 said the music I liked was FOR BOYS! ...that irked me. But I knew it wasn’t and that I wasn’t alone in liking it.

But now...hearing that cheesy stuff brings up some good memories. Hopefully she’s playing the Clash once in awhile!

I can’t remember the public controversy over them, but that’s not a bad song!
Oh, right, they didn’t actually sing...they were hired to be frontmen and lip-synch because they had better looks than the original singers. Blame it on the rain, I guess.
Heard a choir sing Jolene on Grand Manan Island Sunday ... few knew the root was Joel ... as in Tess, Joel and Moriah of essence ... rain, fire and wind ... the summation of things getting out of hand! The poor rain didn't wish her partner to burn up ... thus the greening was burned brown ... like Charlie's situation with Lucy the neuroscientist pushing buttons! Ba'aLs will be kicked ... a mulish trend!

Admitting to liking Ozzy Osbourne isn't easy. And, to be honest, the real attraction of the original Crazy Train isn't Ozzy. It the brilliant young guitarist Randy Rhoads who died in a plane crash at the age of 25. Ozzy even released a live album as a tribute to Rhoads.
