Summer is officially finally here but you would never know it today with the high of 15° and drizzling rain. The type of cold and goes straight through you. I think I am really affected by the weather. These cold damp days get me down. My spirits were a lot better over the past weekend and earlier in the week. I was busy with outdoor activities – church service in the Park on Sunday, barbecue with the Faith formation group at the Minister’s cottage on the lake on Monday, grocery shopping and errands on Tuesday. Wednesday morning I spent an hour I was in the sun planting pansies and generally tidying my perennial patch. It was the hottest day so far this spring with a high of around 25°. Although I love the sun, I don’t do well in the hot weather and after an hour I was wet with sweat and so weak that I was almost stumbling as I went in and flopped on the recliner. After a bit I revived enough to have a cool shower and made lunch before going to my support group. Talking to other people with the same problems is a big help. We discussed the possibility that people with Parkinson’s has difficulty setting their inner thermostat to deal with either hot or cold.

At the meeting we were given a booklet of information for caregivers I hope Seelerman will read it; he gets stressed sometimes. I encourage him to go to the caregiver support workshop but he is reluctant. He is rather shy and the group would be mainly women. (I’m reading the booklet to see if there’s any way I can make things easier for him.)

Seelerman actually seems to enjoy taking over some of the cooking. Wednesday evening, out of the blue, he said, ‘I would like some homemade biscuits’. (He had tried making them a couple of weeks ago and they turned out like hockey pucks.) So I ask, ‘would you like me to make some, dear?’ By the time I had gathered the ingredients he was out in the kitchen offering to help. Together we made the biscuits with me explaining about cutting in the shortening into the flour and the importance of not overdoing the mixing and rolling. They actually turned out quite good. I will set some out in The Room tomorrow morning. Sometime, I hope it’s a few years off, he will probably be doing most of the cooking. It’s good for him to get the practice now while he’s still enjoying it.

Also, this past week Seelerman had an appointment with his optometrist I went with him because he was getting drops in his eyes to expand the pupil. I had to drive him home. I have been doing much driving this spring – but I did okay. I must make a point to take the car out every now and then if I want to keep my license up. I would hate to stop driving altogether. It comes in handy sometimes, and gives a person a sense of some control in their lives.
We often do a fair amount of cooking 'together'. I do actually do a fair bit in the kitchen when up to it but sometimes my part is me sitting at the computer with the recipe we're using telling Chemguy what to add, where something is, if I think something is done cooking, which one is the tablespoon vs teaspoon (I think he almost has that one down, I really thought he was joking when he asked me about tsp vs Tbsp and he carefully checked out what was written on spoons but I was well into my 20s until I realized what a stick of butter was, made more sense when I found brands that actually were split into 4 sticks). Another common thing is for him to get the meat into the slow cooker, chop anything that needs chopping & maybe the liquid being used depending on timing and then I'll add all the stuff to make it delicious later, a few hours of 'precooking' typically doesn't affect the flavour.

Mrs. anteater, it doesn't look like will be travelling to Nova Scotia this year. We're doing some upgrading to the house (having a heat exchanger installed) and some other expenses. Although plans have not been firmed up, it looks like we'll be just doing day trips and entertaining visitors from Ontario. I will keep your kind, open invitation in mind

A cat in a box. Like that never happens. Maybe he wants you to ship him to @Seeler?

 :D

I would be glad to have her, any time. If she wants to come for a visit or for a longer stay, she would be welcome.

Needless to say, you would also be welcomed.

She isn’t a good traveler, it would not be a pleasant drive. We lately have been doing the pointer game at breakfast again, with the sun shining through the window. I understand the expenses keeping you home, I am spending my savings this year on a fence instead of redoing the patio, which will have to wait.

Ups and downs. Last weekend I led a worship service at a little church across the river (LuceNds church). I did quite well in my opinion and received good comments after the service. Not too tired afterward. Bonus: Ninjafaery was there (she is moving to Fredericton). We went out for lunch.

Busy week - we got a heat exchanger installed, and our house back in order (we had to remove an old airconditioner. patch up the wall. and move furniture.) But I was looking forward to Saturday evening when we would be visiting a village down river for square dancing AND STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE. Then Seelerman told me that we weren't going. No reason given - just that he didn't feel like it.

I was disappointed. Yes, it's a half-hour drive. Yes, the weather wasn't great - drizzle rain. Yes. we had spent a lot of money, and itwould cost less than $20. - not enough to break us. But we haven't done anything special together all summer, and have no real plans. Bowling, weekly square dancing, book club, and my support group all close for the summer.
Seelergirl & and her family were off for a mini-vacation in PEI. My neighbour is visiting her son in Ontario. And Saturday afternoon, perhaps sensing some tension around the house. Seelerman took OUR car to the mall for his daily walk.
I sat and sulked for awhile. Then phoned a friend and suggested that we go shopping. She picked me up and off we went. Great to walk around (I don't get enough exercise), and spend time with a friend. I bought shorts, she got a sweater; stopped at Dairy Queen and had a 'blizzard'. Granddaughter is a shift manager there and she came out from behind to chat with us. Good afternoon.

Today after church I overheard Seelerman tell someone that his back has been bothering him. He probably overdid it earlier in the week. I wish he had told me. I was worried that he was thinking that I'm getting too slow and unsteady to dance. Also, I think He feels stressed.

Anyway things are back to normal now.

I'm glad you had a good day despite it starting out disappointing for you, seeler. Do you have a friend at square dancing who you could arrange a ride with if seelerman doesn't want to go? Is there another dance partner there who you could dance with, or someone willing to take turns?

In my minds eye, at least, that would be hilarious. But, no, was thinking more that they know each other and it might be fun and would be an option. As long as seelerman isn't the jealous type. ;)

Actually there are two couples I would feel comfortable asking if they were going. Seelerman and I have carpooled with one couple on occasion - and once I went with them when Seelerman was unexpectly called to work. The other couple lives near me and also offered on that occasion.
No problem finding someone to dance with. We haveseveral widowers or otherwise single men. And some of the women have learned to take the men's roles in dancing. And there are always a few (like me) who prefer to sit out every second or third dance.
But this time I got the feeling that Seelerman didn't want US to go - maybe worried abour my physical limitations.

Do you have something like this in your town?

Is it something that could be implemented there?

Interesting - maybe something I could use locally at some time in the future. Not yet - remember we are talking square dancing.
