Is Genesis something that can get anything started .. and thus the myth?

I have not heard the original version of Speechless, the new song from the live action remake of Disney's Aladdin. However, it sure sounds great in the capable hands of The Hound + The Fox.

Julia Westlin seems to be shaking off her health issues (though I know from her posts they are still with her) and has been releasing some really good original material this spring. The latest just came out at noon today.

Former X Factor UK contestant Janet Devlin crossed my path on YouTube recently. She does a mix of covers and originals. Her singing voice is a bit odd, but sweet, and she brings real love and enthusiasm to her singing. Here is one of her best covers IMHO, The Cure's "Friday, I'm in Love".

With all the versions of Shallow from A Star is Born floating around, I kind of skipped over Pentatonix's cover. Big mistake. It's a rare Pentatonix number highlighting Kirstie's voice. Damn, she's got magnificent pipes. And Scott's perfectly paired with her. Bradley and Gaga, eat your hearts out. I think I prefer Scott and Kirstie.

And Kevin, their beat-boxer, got to pull out his cello, another rare treat.

And speaking of Pentatonix, their former bass Avi Kaplan dropped a new video today. I am not usually a country fan, which is what this basically is, but oh that voice.

The last release (see a few posts above) from The Hound + The Fox was a solo by McKenzie. This one is back to their usual harmonious duet.

And on it goes. New BNL. I haven't always liked their post-Steven Page material as much as the material with him but they still put out some terrific songs. This one is a beauty.

A rather sad, if beautiful, musical moment. In 2005, the full classic seventies lineup of Pink Floyd reunited for a performance at Live8. It was their first and only concert after 1981. Richard Wright passed away in 2008, meaning this is now their final performance as a band. And it only happened because it was for a good cause, leading Roger Waters and David Gilmour to briefly put aside the personal conflicts that led to Waters leaving Floyd.

This is an oldie but a goodie. Great song. I was reminded of it in the song-tag thread. What was old is new again, in some ways, unfortunately.

And now they have done a song from the other big Disney remake of this year.

Love how they did the actual movie version including Timon and Pumbaa's lines (played by the hosts of the movie podcast The Avid Indoorsmen, both of whom are members of a capella singing groups).

Velcro played a big role in the US space program. After all, being able to securely and easily fasten things is important when you don't have gravity to hold them down. So, it is fitting that Velcro is joining in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. And they did so by teaming up with Walk Off The Earth for a cover of the old Police tune Walking On The Moon.

Love that they had Sarah play the astronaut.

A guy on my writing board posted this in response to my avatar (same one as here). Did not know Zevon had a song about a gorilla but am happy I know now.

New discovery day. Sunflower Bean, a New York-based trio, came up in my YouTube recommendations and I gave them a whirl. Not necessarily my new favorite, but I do love their sound.

A radio appearance from early in their career.

Singer-bassist Julia Cumming is also a model for some major fashion labels and a political activist.

It isn't the first time one of the Hollens family have teamed up with The Hound + The Fox, but it doesn't happen often enough. They are a great team up. In this case, it's Evynne Hollens joining Mackenzie and Reilly for a number from The Lion King. It's actually from Evynne's Broadway album and is obviously getting a video now to tag on to the new film version. Reilly produced, using multitracking to get a spectacular sound that is more in the style of Evynne's husband Peter than the usual more stripped-down Hound + Fox sound.

This young woman has been coming up in my recommendations recently. She's Elise Trouw, a singer and player of multiple instruments who uses some neat tech to do live multitrack looping. So she plays a riff and her system starts looping it while she jumps to the drums to add a beat and so on. Really lovely singing voice, too. Her style is kind of jazzy alt-pop and she does a mix of cover mashups (blending elements of two other songs) and original songs (she's a pretty good writer/composer, too). And the kicker? She's only twenty, born just a month after Little M.

Some samples of her craft:
