With the ability we have gained to easily change the header image, we will be rotating it based on season, events, and so on. As we come into August, we have a nice, quiet beach to wander on and enjoy the scenery. Maybe get a little fire going (safely) and sit around it with our mugs of coffee and tea from the Room for All.

Thanks to @Northwind for her picture.

Oh, and our Pride rainbow will be coming back as a permanent sign of welcome to LGBTQ+ folks. Just working out the best placement (suggestions welcome). Currently thinking of creating a small version of it to put above the word "Wonder" in the logo. May not be ready until September but we shall see.

Nice idea.

Just wondering if the wonder cafe logo could have rainbow colours added (it needs a splash of colour).

I think this:

Just wondering if the wonder cafe logo could have rainbow colours added (it needs a splash of colour).
Is answered by this:

Currently thinking of creating a small version of it to put above the word "Wonder" in the logo.
;)

(In fact, I'm experimenting with it in our dev system as we speak)

Hmm. Including the cup, there are 12 "Characters", so we could go through all the colours twice or have the colour change every two characters.

So Cup and W would be red, ON orange, DE yellow, RC green AF blue, E2 violet

OR

Cup red, W orange, O yellow, N green, D blue, E violet, then repeat for RCAFE2.

Definitely a Karen (graphic artist friend) job, but probably doable.

I think we do need to ask the question as to how big a part of our identity this should be, though. Making the whole logo rainbow-coloured could be interpreted as this being a "Pride" site. We aren't an LGBTQ+ site, just a general board that wants to show welcome and support for those people. To my eye, Greywolf's idea handles that elegantly while still not implying it's our whole identity.

https://www.typewithpride.com/ looks good. But you’d probably need more than one character to be in that font to get enough colours of the rainbow.
That looks like from the Ikea children's section. It doesn’t really look rainbow like.

I like the idea of the 2 in rainbow. Not so much the whole of Wondercafe- because we are not a LGBTQ2 forum.
A “2 “ (“too”) in rainbow expresses just enough inclusiveness and probably is somewhat equivalent with the percentage of LBTQ wonder members.

That’s an obtuse comment...the font was actually developed by NYC Pride (one of the largest pride groups in the world) and Newfest (which is an LGBTQ+ advocacy organization that’s been around for 30 yrs but I must admit I just learned about it today), in honour of Gilbert Baker, who was from NY, and was the inventor of the rainbow flag...and it was specifically made for use on LGBTQ+ banners to be recognizable. Defer to the people who invented it to say what looks “rainbow”, before anybody else gives their two cents. It’s rainbow enough for the people who came up with the rainbow flag. That’s what matters. I think it very much does look “rainbow” especially when used for more than one character so all the colours are together. And if it looks like the IKEA kids section - or ikea generally just because it’s colourful - who cares?

Apparently, Gilbert Baker lived all over the place, including NYC - but he’s highly honoured there. Off topic, but I just got annoyed because if there ever was an official LGBTQ+ font, that would be it. The original flag includes turquoise and pink (which I saw in Vancouver a lot - now I know what was different...I didn’t realize that it was in honour of the original flag. Maybe that’s why the font doesn’t look rainbow to some, but it’s actually more authentic.)

This is what the wonder cafe 2 logo would look like in Gilbert Font. I was just experimenting with it. You do have to have whole words for the colours to all show up.

Kimmio, there's no need to mount a vigorous defense here. She expressed her opinion, to which she is entitled no matter who created it. And, in any case, I already gave reasons for not using it here.

I like the idea of a rainbow "2". I think having the entire title in rainbow is a bit overkill.

Well, it was obtuse to give an authoritative opinion that doesn’t consider the source of the font. People need to get out of the habit of having superficial opinions on things before they know what they are giving opinions about...including me. Especially about the decisions and efforts of marginalized groups themselves. Imagine LGBTQ pride groups flying this font as an honour to the person who actually invented the flag, and somebody casually walking by and sticking their nose up because it’s “not rainbow” enough. Geez louise.

She wasn't giving an "authoritative opinion", she was giving her personal visual impression of the font. Which is how someone visiting the site would also react. In fact, you're the one claiming authority for your opinion with your posting about Gilbert Baker. So just stop and think before you post further. We have your ideas and opinion and don't need you picking apart those of other people. Please and thank you.

Most of those who have spoken so far seem to like the rainbow "2" idea, so that's where I am going to start. Thanks to all who have contributed.
