With a year to go until the next federal election, it is shaping up to be a close race between the two usual suspects, the Liberals and the Conservatives. At least in Global's new poll. Scheer is still having image problems, as in he doesn't have one for something like 40% of the population, but the party is benefiting from Trudeau having a high disapproval rating and some "misalignment" (as one commentator puts it in the article), ie. his priorities not matching those of voters in at least some areas. It's early, of course, so who knows where things will be a year from now.

A year away from election day and no-name Scheer is right behind celebrity Trudeau: Ipsos poll - National | Globalnews.ca

I listened to the interview with Scheer and Michael Enright on CBC. I found myself agreeing with a lot of what Scheer had to say. I'm not actually sure what that means. He did have some thoughtful answers to Michael's questions.

I guess it means it is good to have an open mind and that I need to look into candidates more.

Yeah, some of the things I have heard him say since he's been a leader I agree with. Some of the information provided on him from his past I certainly don't. What someone thinks personally though doesn't always affect their policy as a leader. I think I'm going to have to wait closer to election time to see if there's a leader I can actually support, if not, I'm back to voting based on who is running locally.

Imagine dressing it up for some choice process ...

What underlies are recorded ... the problem of rye souls ... tell the other nothing is best for you become vulnerable to virtue ... and truth hurts!

Tis due to an imperfect race of demos ...

Demons unclearly perceived because of renditions ...

I have heard Scheer described as "Harper-lite", suggesting a similar pragmatic conservatism rather than an all-out right-wing firebrand. So don't expect much action on so-con hot topics like LGBTQ rights or abortion. The so-cons will expect it, but he will, at most, toss them some minor bones that don't really change anything. Doesn't mean I'd vote for him, but he's hardly a scary figure. Do expect a focus on tradition and small-l liberal economics, much as we saw from his predecessor. I still wonder if the Conservatives missed a chance by making Rona Ambrose interim leader, which kept her from running for the permanent position. She impressed me during her stint in the role.

He's not Harper lite. He's Harper with a nicer looking smile. But he's just as bad - and Harper was bad. All those omnibus bills pushing xenophobic agendas. He'll carry that on.
