I watched the first episode of The Good Place. Then, The Politician caught my eye and I can’t stop watching. It’s been dubbed the “High School House of Cards”...about a ruthless, corrupt student election. It’s dark comedy. Definitely weird. It’s about a bunch of very flawed privileged people and a little bit about everything that’s going on today...the allusions are numerous. There have been a couple of disturbing scenes so far, also. I think every character is supposed to be a narcissist or a sociopath except the guy who died in the first episode...and even that’s debatable - maybe one other character. It was pretty obviously intended. These people are mostly awful but a few are strangely endearing. Gwenyth Paltrow is in it, Jessica Lange, Martina Navritalova has a cameo role.

Does this seem like a social theme, story, mental case, or other wise myth that keeps its head down for protection of the innocent?

I know people that say stories of the social schemes ... don't exist ... giving proof of denial and mind jerking incidents!

These incidents may be ephemeral and flighty as angels in the night ... thus IT went ... fore boden! The thought thereof ...

The Politician is really good. I'm on the last episode of the season. Bette Midler's been in it for the last episode. She's got a perfect character for herself. Gwenyth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, January Jones (from Madmen) are really good. Ben Platt, the lead, is really good too. It has that quirky 90s early 2000s indie movie feeling - like the Royal Tannenbaums or I Heart Huckabees, mixed with House of Cards (or Game of Throwns if it were in the present, because some of the characters are inexplicably, underhandedly vicious, yet not out of place for the story line) - if I were to try to explain the vibe the best I can. It's like a long wild movie (as some good series can be).

Not as far into it as you. What did you think of the whole Gypsy Rose aspect though? I feel like they went way too far between her story and traits. Made me quite uncomfortable. Comedy of someone's real long-term abuse.

Wandering a' roses ... these may Eris in our way elsewhere? Where else? We don't know as we haven't got to that point yet!

I didn't see the other show and I forgot about that story so it didn't bother me. Also, I don't think it's as much comedy as it is satire - meant to be dark. If there's anything funny it's supposed to be uncomfortably funny (I didn't find that aspect funny, but satirical). One of the points of the characters is they're all (most of them without giving anything away) a little bit sociopathic/ antisocial personality/ borderline personality disordered/ damaged. Some are full on psychopaths. Jessica Lange's character definitely falls somewhere in that cluster of disorders.

They were not so much making fun of illness as classical comedy and satire has elements of tragedy and focuses on the (sometimes awful) absurdity of human fallibility.

There are so many potentially offensive elements in shows (couldn't even watch Game of Throwns, Breaking Bad could've been making fun of addiction, the growing opioid crisis, or desperate people who can't pay their medical bills. All the mob shows like Sopranos use Italian stereotypes, and they satirize some despicable crimes (Tony Soprano's regular visits to a psychiatrist made comedy out of real mental illness - as if in real life she'd just sit and listen to a high ranking mobster talk about his "work" problems), but they are shows with some element of believability or suspension of disbelief because there are so many potentially offensive elements of humans generally.

I don't know what you mean by other show.
Comedy - satire - either way the taking on of a specific example, especially on that is still fairly recent - it was a bit too far for me.
The dark humour aspect could have worked just as well utilizing Munchausen by proxy without it being such a clear connection to a specific instance.
I did enjoy the show otherwise.

I looked up Gypsie Rose Lee/ The Politician, and apparently there was another show on a different network, about her specifically. Patricia Arquette is in it.

Maybe the connection was made by accident in the writing, and was so close they had to actually reference it with DeeDee’s name. Or, more likely, it was deliberate - but I don’t think they actually made fun of it. And Jesica Lange’s fate is different.

Tricky Dick and The Man in Black is a really good documentary about Nixon and Johnny Cash. (Cash was, despite personal problems, really admirable - the world needs more like him). There are so many similarities between then and now.

For rock history buffs: Echo in the Canyon !!!

Another excellent documentary. I love the fact Jakob Dylan brought other musicians to the fore and focused on their integral contributions to the music of the 60’s. His dad was brought up in passing once, by David Crosby (!!), and brushed aside quickly...whereas, usually he ends up a quintessential piece of the picture...this time he wasn’t. Jakob made sure of it.

There are interviews and performances by multiple gifted artists, from then and now. One musician interviewed, was obviously interviewed before a point in time not long ago...and it was touching...won’t spoil it. Such a cool documentary, I thought. And now I have a crush on Jakob Dylan...better singing voice than his dad, with some good looks added by whoever his mom is...and he seems like a decent genuine person.

Being stuck at home most of the time, I have been watching “ the good doctor” with my android box. Wouldn’t it be nice if all hospitals were so human as this one. Still waiting for a hint on how poor people pay for the service. ( at one point the administrator says “ the rich people pay so we can treat the poor people”) . Questionable if that is reality. I don’t know enough about the US health system, only that Canadians tend to come home with large bills after minor medical treatments.

Big Bills are for Yellow Boids ... squawking in the treetops ... nut peckers? Bug pickers ...

Wax Wingers ... things sticking out the side of the tete ... pense've recipients ... be still my heart ... Eeyore told not to think ... thus r'SIS!

Depends on how scratched out and stated ...

Watched the first episode of Season 3 of The Crown. The beginning was a great way to introduce the new actress starring as the aging Queen. However, I felt a big difference in the way the queen was portrayed. I'll have to watch more and see if I warm up to the new/old queen.

Does anyone know why they even changed the original characters....why not just age them with makeup?

I haven't even seen it yet, but I hear Mike Birbiglia's "The New One" is dropping on Netflix today. His last special, "Thank God for Jokes" was amazing, so I'm definitely watching the new one.

I just realized I could have capitalized "The New One" there and it would still work. Huh.

Thus far I have been underwhelmed by the new series of The Crown. I'm struggling to figure out the characters now they have different faces. The episodes we have watched so far seem a bit forced and slow. Maybe it will improve. I find it fascinating that my hubby was unaware of some of the facts being depicted. He didn't now about the Aberfan school disaster and didn't know who was the mother of Prince Phillip.

Our Netflix account was hacked last week. The account uses my bf’s email, he received one informing him that his password had been successfully changed and almost instantly another one informing him that his email had been changed. To make sure it wasn’t a phishing scam I tried to sign in using his email and the response was that no account with that email could be found. Luckily, he was able to contact Netflix via chat and they looked into it and gave us back the account almost instantly. We’re not sure how they were able to get in but the chat agent said it was easier since we didn’t have a phone number attached to the account. My credit card was the one attached to the account and while the agent said it shouldn’t have been compromised, I decided to cancel it and get a new one anyway.
