Of late, I've developed a quite nasty cold. Runny nose, sore throat, cough, raspy voice. Still, I'm expected to show up for work. I've been drinking a lot of berry tea which soothes the throat a bit. Someone who goes to the church we've been attending suggested to me that the air pollution here makes colds worse. A couple other folks suggested I have annual flu shots. One of my students gave me today a bottle of homemade lime tea - which she says should help.

I have had bad head colds both times I've been to Xi'an, China. The air quality there is visibly terrible, even compared to Beijing and Shanghai. In fact, I'm not sure if those were colds or some kind of allergy. So, yeah, I can buy this totally.

FOOTNOTE: The air quality in Xi'an is a bit of a national tragedy in my eyes. It's one of their oldest continuously inhabited cities, having been the capital during several dynasties including the Qin (first Imperial dynasty) and should be a showpiece for them.

I didn’t realize , but our contract said that you don’t get sick time during probation time. Which was three month before and is now something like six month. Our Socialworker has been dragging herself in with a nasty cough for weeks, probably makingall kinds of other eople sick onthe way.
Maybe your work agreement has something similar?

I think, yes, it does. I'm feeling a little better today thankfully.

We went out tonight for a wonderful dinner at a local place in Seosan. Grilled pork and all the sides.pixlr_20181202191038731.jpg

Don't get me started on those attendance management schemes. Many hospitals have them and they definitely encourage employees to come in sick. Despite all claims to the contrary.

No Jae. Don’t get a flu shot while you are sick

That dinner looks great

Hope you are enjoying your time in SKorea

Are you homesick Jae?

There are certainly elements of home that I miss Waterfall, like my youngest son, my mom, my friends there, my church and - yes - the food.

Most things here taste off compared to in Canada. Even simple things like tomato sauce, orange juice, cereal and chocolate bars. The restaurants are also so different. The biggest craving I have is for Swiss Chalet sauce.

Just add sugar. When I came to Canada, that's what Ihad to get used to.Canadians add sugar to everything, like pickels and beans.

Hmm... thank you for the tip Mrs. A. That might work with some Korean foods, but certainly not all.

I looked at multiple things of beans I have around, no sugar. For pickles, depends on the type - some require sugar! Looked at the ingredients for what I buy for dill pickles, no sugar there either.

Baked beans, mustard pickles...you probably don’t realize how much sugar and salt is added to products in Canada ( and the US), unless you come from a country where this is not the case.
