I presume that the amendment to the policy was a reduction in implementation time from 48 to 24 hours?

Was there a rationale to reduce the time one had to possibly regret a hasty decision if the presumption stands?

Nope. It's always been 24 hours. The changes are a new sentence explicitly stating that allowing someone to return is at Council's discretion and the disclaimer at the bottom (the new last sentence). I also edited one sentence for clarity but didn't change the meaning.

My thought was that its been a week since Jae left and that’s his usual timeframe to come back. So its good to have policy and procedures available before he starts all kinds of new accounts.

That's not his history. He changed his username back in the day before coming back, but he didn't create alts or sockpuppets that I'm aware. There's lots to criticize Jae about, but this isn't one of those things.

He will try to come back, though. Then I guess it's up to council. I think Jae had a good idea to leave. He needs to break away from this place because most of us are sick of him and it's not a healthy environment for him, or us when he's here. He needs to fundamentally change how he derives enjoyment from online conversations. I don't know how you do that.

Agreed. Lot's of username changes on WonderCafe.ca and some exploration about doing the same here. He has generally been very straightforward in maintaining one account and using that.

Won't rule it out.

That he has taken new steps this time around to have his account closed suggests that he may finally have decided to move on.

Time, as always, will tell.

Agreed. Now that he has actually taken formal steps to disassociate from this place, rather than his formal disciplines and his informal huffs. He has to deal with the gatekeeping functions that the council has at their disposal.

Thank you for the clarification.

A grand temporal schism? His outlook is religious and thus determinate ... and the profession is based on protectionism ... and turning down all others ... some think about this stuff ... and I've been told too many times to not think and conform to the roue's ... that I tend to be an outlier and see things that others don;t from within the nebula ... thus the imaginary Reuben and ruse 'n ... if you can muse about the icons missing over time due to condensing redaction ...

Tis an enigma of mythological proportion giving the missing logic and reason ... that may not fit in some pious stances ... resistant to learning? Something is nonexistent ... all that's left is anonymous sense ... mostly unknown as the love of knowledge and wisdom ... philosophy? Do philosophy and stoicism mix? There in the gathering we're stuck without mediums ... who play with word ... god does have this funny sense ... the darker side?

One must investigate it as the night of the soul ... alimentary list?

Can we keep this thread to questions and comments on the policy and not make it about Jae? This policy applies to everyone even if his departure played a role in us reviewing and tightening up the policy in question.

As per someone closing their own account as per their own decision (that thread is closed for discussion)...not sure why you would want to make it difficult for them to return. It’s possible someone might not wish to leave their account active while away for a long period of time but might want to return someday. I don’t know why the discretion about letting them back. Also, why a one time limit on locking up their account until they decide otherwise?

Maybe make it a “ one time per year” thing instead of only once and for all. I can see that it would be annoying to close and reinstate accounts on a monthly basis- if we ever have a member again who likes to leave with a bang just to reappear a few weeks later.

We are trying to avoid having "frequent leavers" generating excess work for the admins and mods by requesting deactivation every time they come and go. That's largely what the discretion part is about, too. Basically, this is meant for permanent/longterm departures, not someone who feels like a break or who is feeling the heat and decides to get out of the kitchen.

I'm about to go to the washroom. Could you disable my account for 5 minutes?

Is that man on an aircraft ... and letting go as a dark shaded angelistic type?
