Home. Predictably, somewhat discombobulated by jet lag, although it was certainly easy to get up at dawn with dog to take her for a swim. Beautiful sunrise this morning. Enormous, bright orange red, reflecting on the still lake, in competition with the early sumacs turning colour. Critters were some glad to see me, although my daughter had done a great job of staying with them. I have had a lovely vacation, including an 8-day trip in Cheshire on the canals in a narrowboat with my favourite cousin and the sister who is a little tired of fixing my knitting at present.

Good to hear you are home safe and sound.

I got a flashback to childhood from your words. When I was a kid I used to visit an auntie in Cheshire. Her house, in Sale, was a short walk from a canal. I spent many an hour waving to the longboats as they passed. One or other adult always told me to not talk to the barge people. Hard though it is to believe now - some were still being pulled by a horse in 1950-55. Now I'm trying to recall which canal it was - Manchester Ship or Bridgewater? One of the sadnesses of getting older is not having an older generation to direct these questions at.

Bridgewater Canal. We went through Sale, although I don't think we stopped there. I'd have to check the Nicholson's, against cousin's pics. We did the Canal Maps "Cheshire Ring". Lots of agricultural, significant textile histories. The history of the canals, from the essential economic pathway in the U.K. to the current mixed holiday/working crafter-type boat traffic. I keep on saying that I could retire there, but it can actually be a hard life, and parts of the canal system still take you through some "down"towns, like parts of Manchester, although we walked easily to the theatre district...

I saw a documentary once on the canal tours...thought it would be a neat holiday.

Adorable! I have the supplies to needle-felt but not the wool...can't remember what mom did when she learnt to needle-felt...it is such a fun process.

I found it to be a very relaxing activity in spite of stabbing myself several times with the needle.

yes, once you get past that part, it is very relaxing and meditative

pulled some carrots this morning - while there are some small ones, most are LARGER than the one pictured - never had them that big before...biggest ones went to two neighbours and sis...I've only pulled about 1/4 of them.
