Hearing, via the Mueller report, that at least one White House staffer quit after refusing to take illegal action at the President's request it does not surprise me to hear that White House staff would take action without bothering to inform the Dunce in Chief.

To Mendalla - it is certainly true that Trump made some terrible choices and will make more. But curiously, he has been a main opponent of a war with Iran. I don't know why, now, his responses are so weak. Nor can I understand why he has not dumped Bolton.

Maybe he's being blackmailed, or somebody knows something that would be particularly damaging to his presidency.

I think it most likely that he simply isn't up to the task of the Presidency.

His ignorance drives the competent away and draws the incompetent as crap draws flies.

He is more concerned with image than substance. His attention span is such that he only notices sparkly things. And much of the day to day expectation of the Office of President is to not be the centre of attention.

Which is why he never got out of campaign mode. The crowds chanting his name is what he wants most.

He'd have to have some integrity for blackmail to work.

Thats true, but even those with no integrity have things that they regared as important. Lets not forget he didnt have a clue about politics when he came into office, and still doesnt. Hes a puppet for any malicious person/group that studies his characteristics. Its not hard to figure out whats important to him....

Add in that war, any war, is generally good for the American economy.

And the sudden lifting of steel sanctions.

Does that mean the USA is aware they will be needing more steel as they prepare for another war?

Some signs of hope. Trump seems to be acknowledging this is not a good idea. But he hasn't shown the decisiveness that a president has to show. He has to get rid of Bolton and Pompeo. Bolton, in particular, is obsessed with war.

Oh, he also has to get rid of the sanctions on Iran trade - which he had no right to impose in the first place.

This from the American Conservative magazine, outlining all the reasons war with Iran is a bad idea...which shows just how extreme some factions of the Republican Party and this administration have become. Although, I do remember John McCain’s take on the Beach Boys “Barbara Ann” - and he now has a legacy of being a moderate conservative. So, it’s not just this administration.

It's very strange. I'm finding sites claiming that Iranian and American ships have already exchanged fire But the major sites have no such claims.

note - the sites mentioned above are commiercial news sites. And Trump has done exactly the wrong thing. Bolton has illegally created this mess. Trump should have fired (and even imprisoned) John Bolton for what he's done. At first, he did, gently, criticize Bolton. But now he seems to be fully on Bolton's side.

Given his tweet du jour about the "end of Iran", I would say he is inside at this point. I just hope we keep out of it. It ain't our war.

It certainly isn't our war. But Trump is very likely to draw on his (shortening) list of friends to make he war legitimate. And Canada, alas, is a part of the American empire.
