In case you think racist BS only happens in the USA

I agree that when it’s so subtle you can’t call it out even if you do suspect it’s racism. That’s part of the dilemma about bigotry, though, too. For the people experiencing it, one subtle incident can be shrugged off. Regular subtle incidents can be pretty hurtful and demeaning to self esteem. Not to mention, subtle bigotry en masse can become a cancer.

Nonsense. You could have and you didn’t. Prepare yourself for the next time or admit to yorself that you’d rather not, then stop expecting it from others.

Excuse me? Check your piety, please. You weren’t there and I didn’t ask for your chiding.

People are missing the point entirely. I wasn’t asking what I should do about a situation that already happened. That’s ridiculous. Why would I come here ask for advice about that?! I am asking what to do about covert racism and bigotry, generally. Does anyone care to admit it’s a problem? And all I got was denial that it was racism and/ or told what I should’ve done - which is neither here nor there since I cannot time travel. I maintain that, since I was there and you were not - if the couple was being racist, holding things up further and embarrassing the employee could’ve been worse, for her, than just stepping up to place my order.

I didn’t do anything wrong. You’re chiding me as though I did. I also wasn’t sure if they were being racist. This happened within 2-3 minutes or less, including me thinking “what are they waiting for? Wait a minute, are they being racist? Maybe not. But the girl has a look on her face. This is awkward. Maybe they didn’t hear her? What’going on here? Okay, i’m going ahead and ordering.” And in that time the other server came out - and I’m not in the habit of reading the minds of the customers at fast food kiosks - but it was the combination of the pause, and the look on the face of the server who served me that had it pop into my mind.

I did look over at them, like, “Are you going to go?” They knew what that look was...the till was wide open and the girl was just standing there ready to serve someone ...it didn’t take rocket science to see that her till was available.

Talk about misplaced criticism. Geez.

Idiocy is a state of when nothing is present ... thus lax conscience? Adolescence suffer from what my grandfather described as nothing (butt love) ... appears as a hole there ... with a smell ... big ođ tree ... outstanding there?

I regress as if it were my pituitary complex surrounding the homunculus image ... imaginary versus the abstract? Nothing to wit ... thus laughter, ridicule and sar chasm in the back ...

There's always a right and a wrong as soon as people see a rite of being ... they're not right! Tis the human schism ... opening a chasm between east and west ... Judah and Vandeval ... the wind out of the sunset shadows us ... thus the rest!

@Kimmio,

There is not too much that could be done at the moment. You might have reminded the other couple that it was their turn to move forward to the teller, to which the couple would have to either acknowledge the situation and go, or tell you that they aren't ready to order and that you should go in front of them. But it still leaves the situation as to why the couple preferred to wait. Maybe they wanted to check the menu (or something similar) a few more minutes, but the coincidence is, at best, strange. "Racism" may be too hash of a word to describe the issue, but it raises a few doubts, especially if we were to witness that couple behaving the same way over and over.

However, there is still one lesson to take from that: to make sure that we are not part of the problem too!

It's getting worse everywhere in Canada, but Alberta's a particularly bad hotspot for racism these days, according to this Edmontonian writer. Edmonton and Toronto were mentioned several times.

Racism is a rising power like avarice ... the need to contain and possess what wasn't ours to begin with as we're fallout!

We're just it ... the carriers ... cart ology ... from flash cards ...

Reminds me of wholly's and their like ...

completely, totally, absolutely, entirely, fully, thoroughly, utterly, quite, perfectly, altogether, downright, without qualification, without reservation, unreservedly, in every respect, in all respects, unconditionally, unconstrainedly, unrestrictedly, consummately, undisputedly, unmitigatedly, wholeheartedly, radically, stark, just, to the hilt, all the way, to the maximum extent

Imagine a dark angel there low down in his wholly underthings and be told not to get into the bedding with the material of itch ... that's when the wool is pulled over your aye's as folk find compassion distasteful in a world leaning towards hate. It is the present tile of the unseen wave ... those in the midst of the flame can't see it because of emission spectroscopy! The mission is to strip the light of all but black and white so there can be simple conflict over the script ...

Thus the source of lesser intelligence sprouting ... as the green grass of vertigo! The vegetated spinner ... expect chuckles in that court ... demonic to those stiff without humour ...

I didn’t watch the video because I can’t, I am not sure I can look at it, but I see the still picture and I believe it. Similar brutalities have happened in North America already. Just because we’ve evolved from that place doesn’t mean we’re there yet, it doesn’t mean there aren’t prejudices that favour white people, able cisgender white males in particular, inherent in our systems in subtle ways that still do harm. The spores of racism are still there and the fungus could grow back heavy again. In fact, the conditions are still really awful for many communities “even” in Canada - we have indigenous communities without clean drinking water still, for example. We have disproportionate rates of poverty and incarceration for indigenous and black and brown folks. We could devolve if we are not careful. It’s happening in China in 2020. We are not immune, so we have to stay aware and keep working at it, respecting and listening foremost to the leadership of those communities.

Brute force succeeds ...

We are up here only for a short time of learning ... thus descend due to the living weights ... too brutal!
