This site has a minimum time allowed before a post. An error message may have popped up saying to wait so long. Your typed message is not lost, just wait before hitting Post Reply. This should reduce the number of double posts that appear.

I'm Getting Too Many E-mails

For new threads:
Go to your user name at the top right corner and click on preferences
uncheck the 'and receive email notifications of replies' box

For threads you're already getting emails from, there are 3 options:

A) This is the quickest for multiple threads. Click on your user name in the top right hand corner.
On the bar on the left, under Your Account click Watched Threads.
At the bottom of the list, click Show all watched threads.
Select all of the threads you do not wish to receive emails from. At the bottom of the list where it say with selected... choose Disable email notification and click the red Go button.

or

B) Open the appropriate thread
Select More Options at the bottom of the reply box
uncheck the 'and receive email notifications' box
Write your reply then click the Reply to Thread button

or

C) Open the appropriate thread(s)
Click Unwatch Thread which is just above the opening post
A box will pop up, click the red Unwatch Thread button
If you still want to get the alerts, without emails
Click Watch Thread
A box will pop up, select the option 'without receiving email notifications' and click the red Watch Thread button

If you choose to use either B or C you will have to repeat it for every thread you no longer want to get emails from.

For Conversations:
Go to your user name at the top right corner and click on Contact Details
uncheck the 'Receive email when a new conversation message is received' box

This will work for both old and new conversations.

For emails about WC2:
Go to your user name at the top right corner and click on Contact Details
uncheck the 'Receive site mailings' box
Note: There likely won't be many of these, and the few that go out may be important, so consider keeping this option selected.

I can't start, or include someone in a Conversation

The user may have their privacy settings set so that only certain members may initiate a conversation with them. You just have to accept that some people may not want to engage in a private conversation with you!

The timestamps are off.

Change your time zone. To do this, click on your user name in the top right hand corner. Then click on preferences on the left hand side of the page. Select the appropriate time zone from the drop down menu.

What a signature, and do I have to see them?

A signature is a statement someone uses at the end of all of their posts. You can make your own from your profile page.

You can turn off all of the signatures if you wish so you don't see them in the forums and conversations. To do this, go to preferences section of your profile page. Uncheck the box 'show people's signatures with their messages' and then click the red Save Changes button.

See Profiles & Privacy for more details on both creating and hiding signatures.

How do I change my avatar?

Click on your name in the top right hand corner. This opens your profile page.
Click on the box for the avatar.
Click browse.
Choose the file you want and click ok.
You can adjust it in the preview box a bit if you want.
Hit the red okay button.

How do I change my password?

Click on your username in the top right hand corner.
Click on password on the left hand side, it's second last.
Type in your current password, and your new password twice in the appropriate boxes, and click the red save changes button.

I find the font too small to read.

There is a style that makes the font bigger. There are 2 ways to access this style.

1. Click on your user name in the top right hand corner. Click on preferences on the left hand side. Under Style, choose Wondercafe2Large from the drop down menu.

2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, near the bottom lef thand corner a style name is listed , when you first join the site it starts as Wondercafe2 (see image below). Click on this and a popup appears. Click on Wondercafe2large.

Zoom In
Most browsers also allow you to zoom in. On many PCs, you do this by holding down control and clicking the + key. On many Macs, this is down by holding down the apple and clicking the + key. You can also often find the zoom option in the menu under View. As this depends on your specific device and broswer, you may need to google to find out how to do this if the suggestions here do not wrok.

What is the @ symbol used? & Tags

You may have noticed the @ symbol being used in front of someone's user name. For example, @ChemGal
This is done to tag them. When someone is tagged, they may have decided to receive an alert (see Profiles & Privacy).

To tag someone, type @ followed by their name. Once you have started to type their name, a box will appear that you can click on to complete their name.

Attempting to Respond Via Email
As mentioned in the Profile & Privacy Tips thread you can set alerts to be sent to your email account that is connected to your Wondercafe2 account. You may get this from both conversations and forums, depending on your settings. You CANNOT respond to other members by replying to these emails. Any time you reply to an email, it goes to an admin account that is primarily used for manners related to running the site, which can be accessed by the admin team.

If you wish to respond to someone, use the wondercafe2 site. The site is not designed for you to interact with others via your email account (ie. hotmail, gmail, etc.). If you want to use email, you will need to get people's individual email addresses.

This morning I have been getting a pop-up when I click on a post within a discussion (several boards). It says 'the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site'. I just clicked out of it and decided to send a heads up.

Thanks Kay - I'm just tagging the admins also on this - @chansen; @Mendalla; @Pinga.

Strange. A cert issue is something you usually come across on secure sites like banking. It can be triggered by any number of things, but going through a proxy is a big one. I sometimes have cert issues because I use OpenDNS as a proxy to filter my son's access (not for porn or anything, just to cut down on his gaming and Youtubing) but never on WC2 (actually, not true, I've had it on threads with embedded Youtube videos IF I have video filtering on).

I thought it likely wasn't something to worry about - are you just confirming that assumption? No Brownie points for guessing how little I know about computer words!

Sigh. I babbed in "Geek" again, didn't I? Must stop doing that. If you're not getting it anymore, I think it is okay. I'm just not sure why you were getting it in the first place.

LOL Mendalla - communication is such an art! I must agree, it was indeed "modern Geek" in your communique!
