No, they literally learn and record a song in those two hours. Nobu and Daveed do the arrangements ahead, of course. However they teach them to the regulars in the back room of a tavern, and a videographer records the final product to post to YouTube. For tours and charity performances, they do similar but usually in larger settings with larger groups.

That's right. My neighbour went to an outdoor one in Whistler last year - just one evening - practice & record - done!! The selections of music is key I think, and most are generally known pieces of music. My friend goes to the weekly sessions at the Clinton Tavern - she takes a little folding stool because standing a long time is not great for her - but she stands for the recordings - and is ALWAYS right in the front row!! Not shy and sings with gusto!

Choir! Choir! Choir! Brings “IF I HAD $1,000,000” - The BNL Charity Singalong! to the Mod Club theatre on November 25. This holiday fundraiser is held for Covenant House, the integral organization that helps youth from all backgrounds get off the streets. Join us in raising our glasses (and our voices!) to the iconic music of Toronto's Barenaked Ladies and help raise some much needed funds to help those who keep falling through the gaps.

And just out on Twitter, they are going to pay tribute to John Mann of Spirit of the West on Tuesday at their regular venue (Clinton's Tavern). Proceeds will be added to those raised by the Barenaked Ladies event on Monday. The song will, not surprisingly, be Mann's lovely "Venice Is Sinking", which was inspired by a visit to the titular city on his honeymoon.

Rich Terfry did an impromptu Deep Dive on Thursday night into one of their big albums.

My father-in-law, one of those truly great men, in a humble way, died in his mid 70s of Alzheimer's. Hard way to go.

@Mendalla - are you watching W5 RIGHT NOW? a short piece on Choir, Choir, Choir is coming up!
Finally watched it while I was exercising. Very good piece. Had never occurred to me that Nobu was related to Sid Adilman of the Toronto Star. In fact, his Asian appearance and first name had me wondering why he had a Jewish surname. Then again, as the parent of a mixed race child myself, you'd think that possibility would occur to me.

Dang, I tweeted about the W5 report and C!C!C! retweeted it. I think my Twitter profile just rose a couple notches.

In the CTV report, they gave a hint of this one, but now the official video is out.

From Clinton's Tavern to a recording studio, the regular C!C!C! gang team up with singer-songwriter Andy Kim to celebrate 50 years since the release of the classic Sugar Sugar, which Kim co-wrote with producer Jeff Barry. It first appeared credited to The Archies, a cartoon band of characters from the Archie comics, with Kim as one of the voices. It has been covered many times since.

The song itself is a thing of beauty, a light, bouncy pop tune with lyrics to match.

Enough background. Hit it. And I will bet more than a few of you will be singing along.

So apparently, the editors of Oprah magazine found out about C!C!C! earlier this year. The guys have tweeted an invitation for the magazine's eponymous founder to join them for a sing in 2020, her choice of song.

And they followed up Sugar Sugar with a Cher classic from the end of the eighties (damn, she's had hits in just about every decade since I was born, hasn't she?). Love that they got the key change near the end.
