    Discussing subconscious racism

Yes Mendalla - it makes the case for having body cameras, doesn't it? Complicated.

    Discussing subconscious racism

Just to correct this bit in the article - Additionally, Canadians have been protesting the recent death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet, a black Toronto woman whose mother says the 29-year-old woman was fatally pushed off a balcony by authorities. The distraught mom later recanted this comment...

Did you dye all your hair, or do a streak? My dtr used to love doing the vivid colours way back when - so I was the 'good mom' pressed into assisting her which was kind of fun. We kept track of colours used by painting patch on a nearby white wall in the basement :-) I think Manic Panic was...

Those family photo calendars are so much fun I think. We used to do them for my mother-in-law too.

Happy New Month! It was my mother's greeting when we would come down to breakfast at every turn of the calendar. Speaking of calendars - if you still use a wall calendar - what's the new photo on yours for this month of June? One of mine has a beautiful photo of pink & peach ranunculus flowers.

That's an interesting twitter thread @Mendalla. Sandy Hudson is known as a community activist & for taking strong anti-police positions. I do agree that we have a huge amount of anti-racist work to do in Canada, and in the United Church - it's not just a US thing. Evidence of that was clear...

That's interesting @Northwind. We saw Whiskey Jacks in Yellowknife, but I've not seen them around here. Maybe they stay more northern in Ontario. You learn something new every day!

    Gardening Thread

So windy here today! And cold forecast for tonight - I just moved my big pots of tomatoes & peppers into the garage - for shelter from the wind & tonight for shelter from the cold! Apparently tomatoes, peppers & cucumbers (ie heat lovers) can be stunted if temps fall below 10 - 12C .

I think they are only found on the West Coast. Not sure about Whiskey Jacks, but the Stellar Jays (also a West coast bird) are definitely related to Blue Jays. Oops - edit - was typing at the same time as others!

I recall my brother (who used to ski there) mentioning it was closed at one point - the snow was TOO deep - not enough clearance to run the lifts!

Pulmonaria (lungwort) - spotted leaf, pink/purple bell shaped flowers Forget me nots - blue Double creeping buttercups - yellow - looks like small ranunculus & I love it; can be a spreader, especially in moist areas (mine is not in moist space) so need to keep an eye on it. And of course the...

    Novel Coronavirus

Lastpointe - thinking it must be so stressful for you & your family to be waiting. I'm guessing some of the 'wait time' might be because of incubation period - if tested "too soon" perhaps a neg result would provide reassurance but ultimately be inaccurate in some cases where the virus has not...

We did some hiking at Mount Washington a number of years ago - such a beautiful place. The boardwalks were interesting, and then into the forests ... so pretty and peaceful.

I picked this little bouquet from my garden - just leaving it here as a bit of springtime peace & beauty. Wishing everyone a good "weekend" - although for many that has relatively little meaning these days.

    An experiment

Simply lobbing criticism at other groups is not dealing with any issue - it's just empty words IMO unless one is making effort to educate oneself about said issues and working hard to effect change. Lobbing criticism, blaming & shaming does not effect any positive change, it enhances division...
