Lots of hype going on about Batman vs. Superman right now. But looking at the images coming out of the production, I think I'd rather see this movie:

Batman_v_Superman:_Dawn_of_Justice_6.jpg

I love the look of the new Wonder Woman played by Gal Godot. Alas, it's another two years (June 2017) until the Wonder Woman solo movie comes out. Why? We've had about 6 live action Superman movies and 7 (8 if you count the film of the 1966 TV series) live action Batman movies in my lifetime but only one campy, though somewhat entertaining, Wonder Woman TV show (I'm not counting any of the DC animated TV shows). As much as I'm a Bat-fan, it would be nice to see some new superhero faces on the big screen.

Any movies that aren't currently getting made (or are a ways off) that you'd like to see instead of what we are getting.

So would I, but it sounds like Hugh is winding down as Wolverine after Apocalypse and Wolverine 3 and I'm not sure an Alpha Flight movie would be viable without him since the rest aren't that well known. OTOH, Fox probably has the rights as part of owning X-Men so it's certainly possible as part of their X-Men universe.

They'll never do it because Marvel wouldn't spend the money on a non-American superhero.

Oh wait... Black Panther...

So there is hope. They'd have to get another A-list actor to play Wolverine though since, as you say, Hugh is winding down.

Other superheroes who'd I'd like to see get the cinematic treatment. I highly doubt they ever will... The New Mutants, Power Pack, Dazzler, Cloak & Dagger.

It's not Marvel, though. The rights are still with Fox for X-Men universe which probably includes Alpha. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are an oddball case because they straddle the X-verse and the Avengers so have appeared in both series. And Wolverine's been a success for them despite being a Canadian played by an Aussie (or is he Canadian in the Fox X-verse? I haven't seen the Wolverine solo films).

They may have to anyhow. He is clearly the big draw for the cinematic X-verse. Witness how they made him a central character in Days of Future Passed where, IIRC, I read that in the original comic it was Kitty or someone like that? Not sure who it would be since Hugh has really made that character his own.

I wish they had done a better job with The Golden Compass so that they could have made the whole His Dark Materials trilogy. How did they make that one so bad with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig in leading roles? I might be slightly bitter.

The same pair also starred in a poorly received remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (called just "The Invasion"). Just goes to prove that an A-list cast can still mess up a good property. Maybe Craig should stick to saving the world from SPECTRE and leave the sf and fantasy stuff to someone else.

A literary property I have long wanted to see filmed (but there is no sign of it ever happening) is E. E. "Doc" Smith's Skylark series. Four novels with technology that gets more and more off the scale in each one. His Lensmen series would be great, too. Both are seminal novels in the space opera genre so are, to some degree, ancestors of modern franchises like Star Trek, Star Wars, and Battlestar Galactica.

What's "it?" You mean Wolverine? As far as I know no studio currently owns rights to Alpha Flight.

I haven't seen the solo films either. marvel-movies-wikia-com says, "James "Logan" Howlett, also known as Wolverine, is a Canadian mutant."

Yes, in the comic version it was Kitty "Shadowcat" Pryde who went back in the past. In the movie she rather sent Logan back. Though I don't know if she's ever actually called Shadowcat in any of the films, that was her superhero name in the comics. Hugh has been the big draw in the X-verse. He hasn't been the big draw in whatever universe would be made up by considering all of the films made based on Marvel Comics characters. There, Robert Downey Jr would claim top spot.

Saw that one at the movie theatre. Imho, one big problem was that the special effects out-powered the characters. Kidman and Craig are good actors, but they weren't given a chance against the CGI.

Also, I was disappointed in how the film ended (other films have ended in much the same way of course).

"It" meaning the studio making the X-Men movies. Fox got the rights to X-Men prior to Marvel starting the Marvel Cineverse so the X-Men remain in their own movie universe for now.

Alpha Flight began as an X-Men spinoff and the rights to X-Men offshoots tend to go with X-Men which means Fox likely has the best claim on the rights to do an AF movie and since they own the movie rights for Wolverine they would have to make it (or do a deal with whoever is making it) if he is to be included.

The other gap in the Marvel Cineverse is, of course, the Fantastic Four who also belong to Fox and who are getting a reboot this summer after two rather so-so films a decade or so back. This also gives Fox two memorable Marvel villains: Galactus and Doctor Doom.

Whew. Glad to see they've kept our favorite Canuck superhero a Canuck

There is, of course, ongoing speculation about Marvel and Fox eventually coming to terms to allow the X-men and FF into Marvel Cineverse (Avengers, et al.) much as Sony and Marvel have done for Spiderman. Hugh as Wolverine facing off with Robert as Iron Man is a movie I'd happily pay to see.

Right, unless they didn't do the AF movie as an X-Men spinoff.

Knew the Fantastic 4 remake was coming. Didn't know F4 belonged to Fox. You're being generous Mendalla when you call the F4 movies of 2005 and 2007, "so-so."

Wolverine is certainly the #1 Canadian superhero. However, he was never one of my favorites. My favorite members of the X-men in the comics were Rogue and Shadowcat. My favorite X-men in the movies would be Professor X, Cyclops (who they could of, and should of, done more with) and Iceman. My favorite Canadian superhero would be Sasquatch.

That'd be great I agree, but both Hugh and Robert seem ready to move on soon. If an X-Men/Avengers movie ever gets made (X-Mengers?) it'll most probably be with different actors.

What, no love for Captain Canuck?

Captain Canuck:

Captain-Canuck.jpg

A Canadian studio did announce a movie version of Captain Canuck three years ago but I haven't seen any evidence of progress on it.

And before you ask: he predates the similarly costumed Guardian of Alpha Flight by a few years (Captain Canuck #1 came out in '75, Guardian's first appearance was in Uncanny X-men #109 in 1978) so if anyone ripped off anyone, it was Marvel.

PS. I did not remember that James Hudson, aka Guardian, was specifically stated to be from London, Ontario. I'm surprised that anyone at Marvel even knew we existed.

A couple that were rumoured over the years but never really got close to reality that I would have paid to see:

Doctor Who - During Tom Baker's run as Doctor Who on TV, which was the first period when the series was big in North America, he (and others, IIRC) mooted the idea of a big screen adaptation. Baker's Doctor was very flamboyant and funny and would have worked great in a movie plus they would have had a budget for FX, unlike the series at that time.

Quentin Tarantino's Casino Royale - During the hiatus in the James Bond movies between Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, 007 producers EON Productions finally got the rights to Ian Fleming's first novel, Casino Royale. One of those who mused about doing the movie was Quentin Tarantino, who wanted to do it as a period piece (ie. set it in the 1950s where the novel was set). A Bond movie set in the original period written and directed by Tarantino sounded great but, perhaps inevitably, went nowhere though Craig's first movie did end up being a good updated version of the story.

I haven't seen a Tarantino movie that I've liked, so I'm very glad that he didn't make Casino Royale. I probably would have liked it as a period piece (1950s being my favourite decade for fashion), but I can imagine that in his hands it would be more gruesome and bloody than I could handle.

Ever read Fleming? Tarantino might, in fact, be the perfect director for Bond, even if it would mean foregoing their PG-13 rating for an R. And I loved Pulp Fiction and From Dusk Til Dawn (though he only wrote and acted in the latter, Robert Rodriguez directed it).

I haven't read any Fleming. And if he writes anything like a Tarantino movie then his books are probably not for me.
I'm all for a director who takes a character back to his original roots, but I wonder how many fans would be alienated by a new format that is such a departure from the previous films.

Never been a Dr. Who fan. Would rather see a feature length Quark movie. Looking forward to the Galaxy Quest sequel.

By the way, I knew about Captain Canuck. Read the comic books when I was a kid.

Too my taste, reading Fleming is not unlike eating a Bg Mc - without the special sauce.
