A few years ago a congregation I serve started a tradition of a pot luck Christmas dinner on Christmas day for anyone who wanted to come, but especially for those who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day (and didn't want to be). Maybe there is such a church in your area doing something like this? I'm aware that the Roman Catholic church in the town I serve rents the community center each year to host such a dinner
I love that idea of a Xms Pot Luck dinner!

This is really cool. We've been doing something similar for years - Misfit Xmas Eve. Pretty much anyone who knows us and has no place to go, or just needs a safe/comfortable place to celebrate xmas shows up and we feed them and read stories and play games and just have fun.

Someone would donate a turkey or two; someone would bake some pumpkin pies, everything else was carry-in. The Board who came up with the idea thought that that way, it would be seen less as a 'charity' or 'pity' dinner, if everyone there was able to contribute something to the meal.

When we lived on the farm we used to host what became known as The Boxing Day Bash. We spread the word that anyone who wanted to come was welcome. Bring yourself and family if applicable and some food to share. We played games and enjoyed chatting eating! Guests ranged in age from babies to 96. Nations represented were England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Bosnia, Australia, Austria, USA, Spain, Italy and probably others I don't recall! Some people brought food that was typical of the nationality.

Not feeling too great.
Came home from the hospital yesterday. Tons of pain from the biopsy, and there were some things that lead to experiencing more pain that was necessary. Pain was quite high immediately afterwards. Eventually got meds, made tolerable although getting in/out of vehicle and the drive home were quite unpleasant.
Had an HAE attack last night - around area of the biopsy. Lead to pain level almost equivalent to right after the biopsy although the type of pain was different. Had the IV line in at least (radiologist thankfully agreed to write the orders for going home with it, as there was nothing noted earlier about it). Pain subsided back to tolerable levels shortly after.
Used the line one more time today for a regular treatment but I did pick the time based on the fact my pain was creeping up a little bit, but was hard to tell as it was spreading more to my abs as I think the muscles are just stressed, before it was all very much to the side. Pain did go down a bit, so yes to HAE but it didn't take away all the new areas of pain, so I think over time a larger area will be more affected but it isn't severe.
IV line is no more, was out of flushes and at the hospital they didn't really want it in long due to infection risk although I know it could be pushed for 2 more days as long as it was still working.

No results yet, but I did get a specific number of the masses instead of just words like 'numerous'. Feel funny about sharing the number here though - could just be the lack of sleep, as I haven't been getting much of that at all.

Thinking of you, chemgal, and hope that you get some much needed answers.

*Bette gets the stove going brightly, sweeps up a bit, freshens up the afghans, puts books in less tottering piles.* I'll leave Redbaron to refresh the bevvies.

It's very pretty here today. We had about 15 cm of damp sticky snow, which has blanketed all the bushes and trees in a Christmas-y looking garland.

Meanwhile in Ontario - we have ANOTHER winter weather advisory!! Snow starting overnight & into tomorrow afternoon - 5-10cm. So strange to be on our 4th snowfall of the season - and it's not even close to Xmas yet!!

My snow guy has been busy already. Unfortunately, he only clears to the back of the vehicles (mine and the boarder's), leaving me to do around the vehicles and the front porch/steps. It was heavy snow today. I largely "smoothed the top" with the scoop...

Hoping that means an early spring!

Really sad news from my college community. Long time employee, acquaintance, single parent of a teen boy since his partner died of cancer a decade ago. Just real nice all round guy. Dead of a heart attack. Bit younger than I. f***.

Yesterday was a difficult day. Wednesday storm on freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow was over – but the prediction of clear skies and no percipitation was premature. Seelerman and I drove to St. John with cloudy skies and sleet. Slash on the road; visibility poor.
We went down to pick up his brother's ashes from the funeral home. We will keep them with us until spring when we will have a committal service in the village graveyard where his the other brothers are buried. This was the first time since his brother's death a few weeks ago that I've seen Seelerman emotional as sat with the urn and later talk with a friend. I'm glad that he let himself feel the sorrow.

The drive back home in the afternoon was easier – finally the blue skies and clear whether we had been promised. A bit later we put up our tree and put the lights on. It's ready for decorating. And in the evening we went Square dancing. Definitely a full day. (Don't tell anyone, but I grabbed to sleep in the car on the way home).

Sounds like a very difficult day. I was just talking with a friend last night about grief, and 'when' we finally let it out. Her husband died a couple of years ago, and she misses him greatly. She said that during his illness, the death, the funeral and even afterwards, she couldn't cry. It was a couple months later, she woke up in the night, and cried herself out...she said she cried for hours. Sorrow had been building, and needed to be released, I guess. But she continues to grieve. (This started when I told her about a Blue Christmas church service, but she said that she didn't want to risk crying in public.)
