Who are are you planning to vote for? Or have you decided yet? Poll stays open until election day and I'm allowing you to change your choice so it may be interesting to see if there is any fluctuation in the results over time. Party names are alphabetical, BTW.

Discussion of parties, preferences, how you choose to vote, and so on may follow.

I can't remember an election in which I was more undecided. Since the time of Tommy Douglas, I have been NDP all the way. Now the only thing I can be sure of is that I am ABC all the way. Liberals have the best chance of defeating them. I like Trudeau despite the mistakes he has made during his first term – I think he has probably learned from them. So I guess I'm hoping for a liberal minority government.
The next question is: which party should have the balance of power? Green or NDP?

Actually I was disappointed with the greens form their own party. I thought they could be most effective if they supported the NDP. I still think that way – too many parties split the vote and in doing so that the Conservatives gained power.

I will probably try to look at this local candidates support from business.

It's interesting. I lived in a heavily, solidly conservative area for 20 years. It was an area where any other vote was a waste. Now I'm living in an area that is almost the opposite. It is very green here, though conservative seems to be strong too. I see little love for Trudeau here.

Because I'm using my sister's address, I won't be able to vote in the riding where I live. If I could, I would vote for the incumbent. I suspect I'll do that in the riding where I'll vote.

There is a possibility I won't be able to vote this year though as I suspect my surgery will be just before then. I will look to find out about early polls.

I think Trudeau, honestly, would move left if the US moves left. I have a feeling he’s in some precarious and unenviable positions with the US under Trump, and their foreign policy, that we don’t know about and he’s just trying not to rock the boat too much. When I heard Trump wanted to buy Greenland - there’s a big out of use military base there - and the media made a joke about it, I immediately thought of strategic disputes in the arctic and the fact that the next resource disputes the world faces will not be about oil, but about water. We are really in a precarious position if the US doesn’t want to be nice to us. Any PM has to practice a balancing act...but it’s especially true with the US’s current government. If more progressive dems get in that will take some pressure off of Trudeau so he can be more like the guy who ran in 2015.

Depends. Progressive Dems aren't necessarily that friendly to free trade, including USMCA and NAFTA. It could up the pressure on that front, even if it reduces it on others.

I think we could negotiate that in a friendly way that doesn’t screw anybody. The progressive Dems are not hawks, at least.

Currently, I'm only aware of 3 choice - Con, Lib and PPC. When I try to find stuff on the liberal candidate (with party) I either just get the generic stuff for the riding, or else stuff related to Ontario.
So Conservative for now.

Thanks for your honesty. Are you in a riding that will likely go conservative?

What do you see as the benefits of the CPC? I'm asking to understand, no judgement here.

I don’t like the decisions Alberta makes, on the whole, that affect the rest of the planet, sorry. Despite the fact that some decent people live there...the fact that it’s a place that seems stuck in the 50s politically, and the citizens have no progressive choices, bothers me. It’s not about Chemgal, it’s about the world. It’s not a new phenomenon. It’s been that way since scientists knew about climate change and the oil companies suppressed that knowledge so why can’t, why shouldn’t, that upset people? It’s been about 40 years.

I get enough grief about being from BC from good ol’ PG13 and nobody makes angry faces about that. Nobody even makes angry faces when he posts far right (Neonazi even) propaganda, so what the hell’s going on here?

We've had candidates like that. The Conservative who held our riding during Harper's last Parliament (his majority) was basically just a mouthpiece, it was all "Stephen Harper..." or "The Harper team...". She got swept out by the Liberals in 2015 (our riding is traditionally Liberal) and tried to run for the PCs provincially in 2018. Mercifully, the NDP swept London in that provincial election.

Alberta is not a single entity. There are many progressive voices there. Please don't lump all of Alberta into one group.

I’m not! There may be progressive individuals but as a voting block they don’t move. That’s the reality when it comes to leadership and elections there. One reactionary provincial election and they are right back, as a voting block, to being conservative again...and federally they have mostly been conservative since before I was born. Because of oil and colonial values...on the whole...because that’s what elections reflect. The whole. Not the individual.

We threw the conservatives out for the NDP just to make a point and it cost 1000’s of people their retirement years security!!!

Alberta’s contributing to planetary insecurity because (when it comes to electoral politics) they will fight a shift to a green energy economy tooth and nail. Alberta was spoiled with oil money for so long they can’t let it go.

Actually, since you left, we all got together and decided to go it alone. We are building a 90 story directional drilling rig in GP and drilling a 96” borehole under BC to the west coast and building Island AB offshore from which to conduct world commerce.

There are people who are working towards a green economy in Alberta.

I'm torn about the pipeline issue and about the fossil fuels thing. We cannot just shut off the taps. We are all still dependent on them. In the meantime, we can find greener ways to run the industry while finding replacements.
