Pictures, Videos & Media

There are a few ways to post a picture from the internet:
A) Sometimes copying and pasting directly works - use the standard methods for copying and pasting on your device
B) Right mouse click the picture you want and select 'Copy Image Location'
Click the image icon in the reply box (it is to the right of the smiley face)
Paste the image location in the popup box and click the red insert button.

For videos from the internet:
A) If it's a youtube video pasting the link here will embed the video. Again, use the standard methods for copying and pasting on your device.
B) Copy the URL for the video.
Click the media icon in the reply box (2nd from the right of the smiley face)
Paste the URL in the popup box and click the red embed button.

To upload your own files:
Click the Upload a File red button. Find the appropriate file and click Open. Wait for the upload bar to reach 100% and then choose either the thumbnail or the full image.

Polls

When you start a new thread, you have the option to include a poll. To do this, fill out the Question and Possible Responses boxes.

There are 3 options that go along with the poll:

• Allow selection of multiple responses - this would be useful for something like what type of pets someone has, as it allows them to answer both dog and cat.
• Display votes publicly - this allows everyone to see who voted for what by clicking on the number of votes for each option. Other posters will know that this option has been selected before voting, by a message that says 'results will be publicly displayed' before they vote.
• Close this poll after - once a time limit is reached, no one else can answer the poll question. The results will remain.

Polls cannot be edited once posted.

Links

Links can be done 2 different ways:
A) Just copy and post the link

Ie. http://wondercafe2.ca/index.php?forums/

B) A link can be added to text. To do this, select the text that you want to work as the link, and then click the link icon from the reply box - it looks like the infinity symbol. Copy and paste the URL into the popup box and click the red insert button. If a mistake is made, put the cursor anywhere within the linked text and click the unlink icon - it looks like the infinity symbol with an x in it.

*Note, if you choose option B, currently the default text colour is very similar to the rest of the post. To make your link stand out to other readers I recommend bolding or underlining the text. Unfortunately, the text colour cannot be changed for a link.

Emoticons/Smilies

In the reply box, click the smiley face to bring up the options. Click the emoticon you wish to insert.

Quotes

The simplest way to quote someone is to go to the post you wish to quote and hit the reply button. When doing so, quotes from their post will not be taken. Ie. Quotes are not nestled automatically.

To insert a quote without replying, click the Insert icon (to the left of the undo/redo buttons) and select quote. Type/paste the quote without moving the cursor. Using this method, quotes can be nestled by placing a quote within a quote.

To include a name when posting, add the text =name immediately after the first QUOTE in the code. To see examples of this, check out the BB Codes, in the help section. The Quote information is about halfway down.

Spoilers

A spoiler hides part of a post. It will become visible when the reader clicks the red spoiler button. This is useful if you wish to post something that could get someone in trouble if they viewed it at work. NSFW should be included in the title. It can also be used if you're talking about the end of a movie and don't want to ruin it for anyone.

Spoilers don't just have to be for text, this will also work for videos or pictures. Using this feature for videos and pictures can be beneficial to other posters with a slower connection and can make a thread less cluttered.

To Post a Spoiler:
Select the insert icon from the reply box - it is to the left of the undo/redo buttons. Select spoiler.
A popup box will appear, if you wish to include a title, write it here and then click the red continue button. Code will appear in your post. Do not move the cursor, and insert what you want hidden within the code.

Alternatively, you can select the part of the post you want hidden first, and then follow the above directions.

To Read a Spoiler:
Click on the red spoiler button. You can practice below, where I have done one with a title, and one without.

Editing

The editing capabilities are fairly liberal, please do not take advantage of this in discussions.

A post can be deleted by clicking delete at the bottom of the post. A pop up comes up asking for the reason for deleting, although it does not have to be filled out. Click the red delete post button.

A post can be edited by clicking edit at the bottom of the post. A box will popup which is similar to the reply box and works in a similar manner.

A thread title can be edited by clicking Thread Tools underneath the title, on the right hand side. Select Edit Title and change the title in the popup box, then click the red Save Changes button.

Entire threads cannot be deleted. Polls cannot be edited, added to an existing thread, nor deleted.

Spell Check

This site does not have it's own spell check feature, but it is set up to work with your browser's spell check. The following is written for Firefox, but should be similar for other browsers.

A red line should appear under incorrectly spelled words, right click on that word.
A list of suggestions appears, click the one that is correct, and your spelling will be corrected.
If you don't like the change, you can use the undo icon in the reply box. It's the left pointing arrow.
