"AOC"

I'm worried how popular she has become and how many have jumped on her bandwagon.

This is a recipe for disaster if it turns out she eats babies or worships Cthulhu.

One false step and she becomes a huge liability for Democrats. They should take it slower and build her up. Instead they look to her like the Messiah before she was even sworn in.

She's heard this criticism from her elders.

I wonder what a younger Whoopie would think of what her older self is saying?

AOC is the kick in the pants the neoliberal Dems need to wake up and see that their relevancy is fading - as is the GOP. And they all need to make room for young people to create the kind of system and world that they need to happen.

Besides...the establishment Dems are not going to rein someone like her in. That's not why she's there, not how she got into politics, and she'll be herself. She's already more popular than them. She has left wing populist appeal like Bernie did (his star is fading a bit), she's young, she's energetic, determined, she's a woman - and she's 1000% smarter than orange-know-who.

...and she's really internet savvy. The establishment party players can't keep up to that. She naturally understands the culture of her peers - which is a huge advantage over her political elders.

So far, she's had the last laugh when people have tried to "scandalize" her. She makes fun of it, of herself, and then throws them back the shade. It's been helping her.

As chansen says, she'll need some patience. People who rise fast often fall fast. Obama was the exception, not the rule.

Kimmio, I'm not trying to scandalize her. I'm just trying not to deify her. Putting all your eggs in one basket could backfire spectacularly. I'd rather grow support steadily and see accomplishments and more like-minded allies elected before discussing a presidential run.

And I don't think she's against that. The biggest problem with AOC isn't even about her, it's her rabid fans.

Her fans are (mostly) not rabid.

I didn't say I thought you tried to scandalize her @chansen . The "far right" tried to scandalize her with a little dance video - and so she did a little dance for them at her new office door - she knows how to roll with the punches. People try to undermine her on Twitter and she snaps back with a joke. She's exactly what they need in the US right now. Not necessarily to sweep into leadership in this cycle, but to spur on change on the Dem party and status quo politics. In 6 yrs, though, she will be experienced and maybe she'll run.

She's not moving too fast...it's about time. They needed this decades ago.

Nah. I think she's fine. Really, most of the career politicians ought to retire soon, and I think the ideas she represents have been a long time coming. I don't 'deify' her, but I do find her to be a welcome addition to the scene.
Beto O'Rourke, is another "rising star", but despite his skateboarding photo ops and former life in a teenage punk band - he's pretty status quo. He reminds me of Obama. But if it were between Beto and AOC...I would be pulling for AOC. If it were between Beto and Trump or Romney or any GOP, I would be pulling for Beto. If it were between Trump and Romney, I'd favour Romney - etc.

Listen to what the millenials have to say:

(There may be some bad language - a swear or two. I'm not sure. I've gotten used to this show and don't notice anymore.)

Would Wall Street worry about shafts arriving after the shift?

Points could appear ... as weakness in what we believed to be clear and above board ...

Here she employs bible quotes in retort to Republican comments that her sense of urgency is silly because they say it all should be left up to God. (The points she makes are not about religion, though.)

Some good points there. Our party system is less amenable to outliers of any stripe. Tight party discipline and the way leaders are selected from within the party pretty much guarantees slow change at best. Bernier ended up leaving the Conservative Party and Ford, so far, is more Mike Harris on steroids than a true Trump clone other than his penchant for bluster. I would be surprised if either Trump or AOC could actually thrive in our system.
