The Gospel of Mark

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

Okay, I am starting to see where you are coming from. The miraculous healings by Jesus, the walking on water, the feeding of the 5000 and so on are more powerful when taken literally?

No... that isn't exactly what I've said.

Feel free to explain more fully. I am doing my best to figure it out.

Well, I'm not completely sure that you gave a full-enough answer to my question either. Perhaps it's best we just accept that we see things differently and then move on back to Mark. I'm working on a reflection about Jairus' daughter.

I am open to further exploration of the questions posed but we can move on if you like. We don't want to get too sidetracked from Mark's gospel.

Coming up next we have a story of two healings.

I'm still puzzling about the Legion into pigs story. You notice that, at the end, the poor fellow's community was still frightened of him?

And I've just had a similar a-ha moment that worrying about whether this is "true" or "story" or "fact" is a completely un-needed layer to this.

Summary: Mark 5:21-43

A woman who has been bleeding for 12 years is healed by touching Jesus' clothing. Jesus is immediately aware that power has emitted from Him and looks around to see who has touched Him. He addresses her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well, go in peace, and be healed of your disease." (5: 34 NRSV)

A twelve year old girl, daughter of one of the leaders of the synagogue, is restored to life. In this case, Jesus takes her hand and tells her to rise.

All are amazed but Jesus instructs them to tell no one what has happened.

Reflection: Mark 5:21-43

The two healing scenarios differ. When the woman who has been hemorrhaging touches Jesus, she is healed without His knowledge & He tells her it is her faith that made her well. The young girl requires action on His part to be restored to life.

The earlier story which described the demons entering the pigs was much more dramatic. And Jesus wanted people to be told about it.

This time, the witnesses to the healing are requested to stay silent.

I'm still puzzling about the Legion into pigs story.
It is still on my mind as well. There is the question of why Jesus wanted this particular story to be told. And I have been asking myself if it is possible the gospel writer was employing satire.

As for today's post about Mark 5:21-43

What do we make of the leader of the synagogue requesting help from Jesus for his daughter? Was he desperate enough to try anything? Did he view Jesus differently than the other religious leaders? I don't think we have heard anything positive so far about any of these leaders.

And why does Jesus keep requesting silence about his activities? He is attracting multitudes of people and word is spreading. His ministry is hardly a secret.

BetteTheRed ----your quote ------- And I've just had a similar a-ha moment that worrying about whether this is "true" or "story" or "fact" is a completely un-needed layer to this.

unsafe says -----Mark 5 is a continuation of Mark 4 ----Mark 4 they are in the Boat and Jesus calms the storm Mark 5 they have crossed the sea and have landed and see the man who is possessed -----so that says to anyone who believes God Word is Truth like it says it is ---is this is truth not just a story -----

So to a believer who believes the Bible is God inspired it is true ----To others who disbelieve that God's word is not truth but just stories etc then for them it is had to believe this would be fact -----

unsafe says ---Jesus here is preforming miracles to show that He is in Fact who He says He is ------As all that Jesus does has a spiritual meaning to it this is no exception ------

First off we can learn that spiritually demons do exist and they can and do possess people ---------God gave Humans complete control over this earth not demons so the only way a demon can have any kind of authority is to possess a soul -------all Satan and his tribe can do otherwise is put thoughts in the minds of humans and we can choose to act or not act on theses thoughts ----So if the demons can possess a soul then then have control over that person and can act as they will in this physical world ------

So we see here in verse 4 demons can have supernatural strength -------they are powerful and have brut strength ------

4 For he had often been bound with shackles [for the feet] and with chains, and he tore apart the chains and broke the shackles into pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue and tame him.

Spiritually we see Jesus has power over all demons ------demons know Jesus and are very --very afraid of Him cause He has all the control over them -----And it also shows that when we witness our victory to others we give God the Glory not ourselves and the man's witnessing to others was very powerful and worked -------

So Spiritually we see that if we abide in God and we resist the enemy ---Satan and his tribe ----they will flee from us ---- the scripture tells us that ---- James 4:7

unsafe says
This is all about spiritual warfare and Jesus showing His Sovereign power over evil by Him sending the unclean spirits into the unclean pigs ------He has the Power and the demons know that ---they are sacred to death of Him ------

We are in the fight of our lives every day with choosing who we pay attention to in our thought life -----and we win or loose the Battle in our minds -----who will grasp you thoughts today ---Satan or God -----what thoughts will you obey in your daily routine ----every action as a good or bad consequence ------

Fame of Jesus and his wonder-working ability was spreading. It was the elder's faith that impressed Jesus.

He didn't want people to expect him to do miracles for them, lest his ministry be interfered with.

One of the most chilling cases of demonic possession of all time.

unsafe says ---This tells the story of this girl ----listen if you dare ---some of the actual tapes that we made during the Exorcism are played on the video -----and If I am not mistaken here and I could be her demon was Legion ---she had more than one ------

unsafe - you were involved in the exorcism?

Can real people be tormented in the form of conscience as expression of thought?

Gods have a solution ... don;t reason this through ... accepting it blindly as some plutarch's dogmaas is simpler ...

The mystery them gets deeper ... for aesthetics in the blossoming ... unseen flouring of the fish? A dustup that allowing Eris'n flowers ... Wars of Rose's?

Life is such đrama ... comedy of trauma of love gone astray for the sake of empowerment over the alternate ... who's expected to be silent ... can blow the innards out of a thinker ... leave them simple! Know your chitz as the chips are laid out ... be cautious of the cliques ...

Not really important as so tight as cliche ... sound of Jiminy ... something snapped ... even Moses recessed ...

Not likely. It's a famous case that became the basis for the film The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

But @unsafe said (new emphasis mine), "unsafe says ---This tells the story of this girl ----listen if you dare ---some of the actual tapes that we made during the Exorcism are played on the video -----and If I am not mistaken here and I could be her demon was Legion ---she had more than one ------"

???

Oh the errors and Eire of the past as buried in de meme ... Ares?

unsafe says ----
Mark5:21-43
The women who had the Blood disease ----Had Faith in Jesus to heal her for one thing ----Faith was her title deed her confidence that Jesus could heal and that Faith moved her to get to Jesus anyway she could -----and second ---- her Faith had right action and she got the manifestation that she wanted by and through her Faith action ----she was healed ------

The Spiritual message here is that Faith produces and will manifest what God Promises in His word if we put that producing Faith into the right action ------The right kind of Faith is needed and that Faith is Faith that relies on the unseen----- not our 5 senses -----

Right belief produces right action --right action gets right results ------
