We recently watched Enola Holmes - who, if you are a mystery fan, you might surmise is the younger sister of Sherlock & Mycroft. Well cast and snappy pace, lots of interesting characters & twists to the plot - overall a fun evening of entertainment. Nice to see a capable, intelligent 16 year old girl protagonist. We enjoyed it A LOT. Recommended.

Was this a 2nd season or did you just not catch it when it was new?

Where can it be seen?
 
Just watched tick tick boom on netflix. A really enjoyable film I like musicals and this one is in the style a chorus line.
 
NOT a movie - a series this time :) - "Only Murders in the Building" - original on Hulu. I'm wondering now if I already posted about it LOL! Anyway - we really enjoyed it - Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selina Gomes are key characters - with lots of other notables in cameos.

Yeah, I love that cast, at least the first two. I have not seen Gomez act yet, only sing. If it is a Hulu original, may I ask how you saw it, given that Hulu isn't available in Canada (or has that finally changed)? Or did a Canadian service like Crave land the rights here?
 
To be honest Mendalla - I'm not sure. My mate searches these things out .... I am merely the 'watcher'. Perhaps on Disney+ ?
 
As a pastor, I held a monthly potluck dinner and movie night. Because we were a church I selected movies with strong spiritual themes. Among my personal favorites were:
(1) "Beyond the Next Mountain" is the true story of a young boy in the jungles of northeast India whose father was converted by a Canadian
missionary who was fired by his missionary board for not bringing tribesmen through the jungle to their missionary compound. The tribe doesn't
know what happened to him and feel abandoned. The father sends the boy to the compound to find out what happened and eventually
learns English, gets a theological education, and in great poverty finally translates the Bible into his tribal language. Then he hunts down the failed
missionary in Toronto, who is now a retired chemist and at first thinks the young man is a mugger. The missionary. had considered .himself a failure. In one of the most moving scenes I've ever seen on screen, the young tribesman asks him, "Do you realize that your name is spoken with reverence on every inhabited mountaintop in northeast India?"

(2)"The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (1958)," starring Ingrid Bergman as Protestant missionary, Gladys Aylward, who was probably the most spiritually effective female Protestant missionary of all time. Many movie critics claimed this as Bergman's greatest performance, adding that she missed out on the Best Actress Award only because she had won it the previous year. Gladys was so dyslexic that she could only get jobs as a cleaning lady. When she
felt her call to China, missionary boards coldly told her she was unqualified. She couldn't afford the boat trip, so she saved her pennies. to get there
via the Trans-Siberian Railway through Stalinist Russia. Once she arrived, she converted thousands of women through her social activism in their behalf. The way she rescued 100 Chinese orphans during the Japanese invasion by leading them across mountains and rivers
with no bridges has been used by the US military in mountain warfare training.

(3) "The Mission," starring Robert DeNiro, Jeremy Irons, and Liam Neeson, is factually based on Jesuit efforts to convert an Amazon tribe at the
same time the Spanish and Portuguese were trying to enslave them. The Movie won the Palm D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the British Film
Academy voted it the best movie on a spiritual theme of all time. Its musical score was surprisingly voted the 17th best ever by the Screen Actors Guild. Its reflections
on the cost of discipleship are in my view the best ever put on screen.

@Mystic This is the second post of yours that has been messed up. How are you posting? PC, Mac, or mobile device (tablet or phone)? Do you type in the board editor or copy and past from another application like Word? Just trying to find out what's up so I can try to figure out what's happening.
 
At one very unique potluck dinner movie night we showed "The Little Minister (1934)" starring Kathryn Hepburn in one of her first movies and child actor Billy Watson (age 10), both of whom have a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. The now elderly Bill Watson, a church member, was sitting in his wheelchair in our Fellowship Hall. Bill had personal letters from Hepburn who viewed him as her son and he commented on his relationship with her. Bill had been very active in our local theater scene. The contrast between the effervescent child onscreen and the modern fragile version of Bill was so compelling that the crowd shouted for us to replay each scene in which Billy appeared. One member of our congregation had seen the movie when it first came out in 1934.

Bill was one of the famed Watson brothers who starred with A-list actors like Jimmy Stewart and Spencer Tracy in Hollywood's Golden Age in movies like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Back around 1930 they were playing in the MGM parking lot when a movie producer approached them, asking, "Hey kids, do you want to be in movies?" No agents needed!
