The clergy here stopped being able to look at lists the hospital's had because of the over zealous,
mainly Christians, proselytizing and patients and visitors complaining. This is about boundaries.
And yes, things were changing in regards to how we were seen which added to it.
It took a while to get people on board to tell the clergy when someone went into hospital.
They were not used to having to.
Clergy are bound to take webinars on Boundaries. pun intended...

Yet, as you know, you don't have to be pushing religion to cross boundaries. Being too exuberant in anything
you believe in can cause irritation. Politics for instant.
Buy I believe that God is often telling us to speak up about injustice, and violence, and racism and poverty.

Right now the Earth is speaking up for itself for us to change how we treat it and care for it. People of Faith
and those not, are getting the point that we are in a pivotal moment and the point will only last so long.
I hope we will work together toward a good outcome for humanity, and so for the whole of the Created cosmos.

Buy I believe that God is often telling us to speak up about injustice, and violence, and racism and poverty.

Which I think is different from telling someone they are going to Hell for not believing the same as you.

And I doubt you would speak up in a hospital ward or at the bedside of someone who was sick or dying.

The clergy here have not been automatically given access to a list of religious people for a few years now. Reason was confidentiality. However, clergy does participate in rounds and can suggest to see a person if it seems beneficial. If someone is admitted, he/ she has to ask for clergy or their relative have to let their minister know or staff might ask the patient if they want to see the hospital chaplain.
Nothing wrong with the chaplain needing to follow confidentiality rules like everyone else.

Confidentiality concerns are more likely to be the reason, in my experience with hospitals. As Mrs A said,

Yes, confidentiality and privacy concerns are most likely the reason behind that. But it does seem to take awhile for some people to recognize that. Somehow pastors are supposed to be able to just osmose through the ether when someone is admitted; or at least have the ability to read minds. I'm sort of happy no one can read MY mind when no one lets me know someone's been admitted....

Usually, patients get a lot of handouts when admitted. Maybe the hospital can just add a little blurb about “ if you want your minister to know you are here, let your nurse know, because he will not be informed automatically.”
