First of all, I didn't even know who he was until a couple of weeks ago. I've never seen Empire.

I find it very odd that he is facing 16 counts of lying to police...about a hate crime he staged against himself! (Paraphrasing Trevor Noah) Why?!! The charges seem excessive to me. It was a really stupid thing to do, but it points to a mental illness of some sort, a cry for help, and possibly someone so fed up with racism he felt he needed to make up an attack to get attention to a real problem...even though he was not a real victim in this circumstance. Although, I have no doubt he probably experienced racism and homophobia in his life.

Why would he do it? Certainly, there are better ways to promote himself, if that was all it was about. I doubt that was all it was about.

Thoughts?

A moment of impact for note Eire iddies? When Pi is gone as a rational number revert to the preferred irrationality ... follow our leaders!

I really know nothing about the guy beyond what's been said in stories about the event. Empire isn't really my cuppa. the "why" of it is a bit of a head-scratcher for me, too. He was apparently in contract negotiations but how this could benefit him in that, I have no idea. Now he's basically been cut from the series.

It is interesting that his plan backfired on him. I guess we'll never know his motivation unless he spells it out somehow. Even then I'd wonder considering his story has already changed. Could mental health concerns. Could be garden variety narcissism. Either way, he does need to face the consequences of his actions. I hope though, he gets help as well. He'll need it.

I think of garden variety narcissism as some of these celebrities who have huge Twitter followings, maybe reality shows following their rich and famous lifestyles - those who are famous for being famous but that's about it. I won't name names, but the daughters of hotel tycoons and other very wealthy and famous parents, come to mind. That's garden variety to me. They aren't necessarily "malignant" or harmful, just extremely vain and entitled. This seems like something else because it's so weird, an absurd thing to do, and in the end he only hurt himself (and harmed rather than helped the real issue of systemic racism and the rise of hate). Unless he was manic or something, he had to have known that would backfire spectacularly - they're not just going to take his word for it and go and charge the supposed "suspects" without investigating.

Of course it’s left right. A gay black man pretends he is attacked by two white Trump supporters. All the news channels jump all over it. Fake news. The actual racist got caught. But all the fake news makes the rounds, and then brainwashed people like you say things like, “and harmed rather than helped the real issue of systemic racism.”

It wasn’t real, like the Covington kids racism was not real.

People on the left are brainwashed that Trump supporters are racists, and are then justified in beating up maga hat wearers, because they think the hat means they are proud racists.

They are proud Americans, 50% of the population that voted for and support their president.

The left are fake news trained goons.

I think Jussie was not of sound mind when he did that. It was one very stupid crime and he suffered the most because of it.

Racism and white supremacy has been on the rise, before Trump was elected, and since he was elected. The birther conspiracy helped round up fans, who would become his base before Trump ran. It was racist. Period. People are looking for scapegoats for America's economic woes and racism makes an easy scapegoat, instead of pointing to neoliberal capitalism and oligarchs. Racism lurks beneath the surface - and apparently, covert racism lurks in nearly 50% of Americans. There's no excuse for supporting him with his separation of kids who may never see their parents again, kids who they did a shoddy job of keeping track of. They don't even have proper numbers. It's disgraceful. The hatred for immigrants - especially brown skinned immigrants - is more out in the open than in decades. There's no excuse for him to say white nationalism isn't on the rise - it very clearly is. Stirring up racist sentiment against immigrants is a an old fascist tactic. It works because people really tend to suck.

There's no excuse for supporting Trump. None by now.

The "news" you listen to is dangerous. But I can't argue that with you. It's hopeless by now, you're not going to change your mind, if you haven't by now.

I will discuss other topics with you but won't discuss any left/ right politics. I know where I stand.

The reason you can’t watch Fox News is because your head might explode because of your fake paradigm. Get some help.

Anecdotally, I watch CBC, if I watch anything. I get most of my news via radio or the CBC website. I generally have a fairly calm long-range view of political issues.

My old guy watches a LOT of cable news, including Fox. He's angry, conflicted, confused and agitated by politics and news of all sorts, chronically.

Chronologically dissonant as chronos? Wrinkles in time ...

As bad as kimmio?

There sure seems to be a desire to start a civil war. Over nothing but feelings.

What I have noticed is a lot of listening in order to make an argument back, instead of listening to try and find commonalities. You and I both like red wine, for instance; you're just fussier about it, lol.

Well, Fox News might change soon too. Murdoch's son took over. Donna Brazile (DNC chairman) is on the board. Their "shock jocks" might have less to do. And there may be less focus on pandering to Trump. It will be interesting to see if what Trump supporters watch makes a difference. It's those like Hannity and Carlson who are most problematic. They are actors. Tucker may have been a journalist at one point but he's an actor now. Judge Janine may have been a judge but her main career now is acting, etc.

I don't even watch TV! I read the news and I watch/ listen to a couple of podcasts. I pick up clips online. I haven't watched TV in many months. I can't actually remember - but it was a long time ago.

Trump must demand loyalty or the out factor will kick in as another schism! Encompass it are better in than out and thus that gnawing ...
