What do you believe about the Resurrection of Jesus?

Does your minister preach what you believe?

If not, do you still attend Good Friday and Easter services at your church? Why?

What do you believe about the Resurrection of Jesus?

I'm not entirely sure, but it is more metaphorical than historical, in my mind.

Does your minister preach what you believe?

My beloved rev does a startlingly good balancing act meeting the needs of the widest variety possible of congregants.

If not, do you still attend Good Friday and Easter services at your church? Why?

If I were in a congregation where I felt uncomfortable about attending what are, arguably, the two most important services in the Christian calendar, I'm pretty sure I'd be congregation-shopping.

What do you believe about the Resurrection of Jesus?

I believe Jesus rose physically, in a new body and the he now sits at the right hand of the Power who is God

Does your minister preach what you believe?

indeed he does, because it its Truth

If not, do you still attend Good Friday and Easter services at your church? Why?

if other than the Truth is preached , I would not attend

"What is truth?" Pilate asked. Then he went out again to the people and told them, "He is not guilty of any crime.

I believe Jesus the Christ was crucified under the watch of Pontius Pilate, did die and was buried. He descended into Hell and on the third day God raised him physically and spiritually from the dead and raised him up till he was seated at the right-hand of God the Father Almighty.

Among other things.

It is a powerful myth, one of a number of death and resurrection myths, the exact meaning of which is matter of personal interpretation. I actually see it in multiple ways.

I see it as being about an end to one "life" and the beginning of another "life", but not in a literal sense. It can be applied to any number of "resurrection experiences" we may have (surviving an illness, overcoming some obstacle, discovering something new about ourselves, beginning a new career or phase of our lives, etc.) Being "born again" in other words.

I also view it in terms of the cycle of existence, of how there many deaths and rebirths that are part of the universe. A star goes supernova and its elements become part of a new star and planets (which is where the "we are all made of star stuff" line comes from). A creature dies and its body nourishes various other lifeforms, including the eggs and larvae of flies and such. A mass extinction leaves the Earth nearly lifeless and new lifeforms evolve to fill the gap. And so on.

Does your minister preach what you believe?

I don't worry about this so much as whether they preach something that makes me think and maybe learn something. In a UU setting, this is pretty much a given. In Christian settings, it varies. Of course, it helps if they preach something that is not completely antithetical to what I believe (e.g. hellfire and brimstone), but I don't need them to preach exactly what I believe. One does not learn much that way.

If not, do you still attend Good Friday and Easter services at your church? Why?

My UU has been variable on Easter. Some ministers have had great Easter services, others have treated it as just another Sunday. I prefer the former because part of my Christian heritage is finding some value in that celebration. I haven't actually been to a Christian Easter service in a while. Perhaps this year.

Do any of you consider yourself Christian and a follower of Jesus but interpret the resurrection to have more of a metaphorical meaning or even a different kind of resurrection?(eg. spiritual only, etc) Is Jesus the son of God or a son of God? Is there support for your particular viewpoint within the Bible or other sources?

Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is God. Yes, there is support.
